The best cottage we have stayed at with lovely hosts!
Merry Burn Barn is a hidden gem away from everything with fantastic views of the beautiful countryside and alpacas!

A welcome retreat to ease the stress of daily life.
Merry Burn Barn was beautifully presented throughout, it had everything that any visitor could have needed or expected. The hosts were extremely welcoming and the alpacas were an added bonus. We would without hesitation recommend Merry Burn Barn and hope to return ourselves in the future.

A super stay
A gorgeous property in secluded surrounds that was absolutely spotless and well supplied with household items. The bed was comfy, made from wool and it had a cozy alpaca wool duvet. The alpaca are fun to watch, they're bonkers, and they make great garden mates! There is so much bird life to see and hear too, with curlew, redstart, fieldfare, barn swallow and greenfinch to name but a few. We loved that it was approached through farmland on an old railway track, particularly as there was an explosion of new lambs. Treat yourself to the drive through Donkleywood, it is stunning. Lots to do in the area, and it is an easy stroll to Kielder Dam. The pub in the village was really welcoming and the food great too. We liked the wee tearoom for a bowl of yummy soup. The only tiny issue was with the heated towel rail, it was exceedingly hot. Andy did give some guidance on cooling it down but it didn't make any difference. The hot water is plentiful, but you can hear the boiler going all day (which makes me worry about the oil bill!), and the manifold for the under floor heating is in the back of the wardrobe, so the bedroom is quite warm too. That said, we would not hesitate to book again, we loved our stay.

Relaxing Home from Home.
The cottage was so clean and cosy. Beautiful views from the bedroom and lounge. Well equipped with everything we needed for a week. The alpacas of course, are beautiful animals and could have watched them all day every day!

Exceptional
The property is in beautiful surroundings, with no noise or light pollution contributing to a really relaxing environment. The cottage is pristine and really well equipped so self-catering is great, but there is also a good pub in the village if you fancy a night off cooking. The owners are really friendly and have a wealth of advice if you are looking for things to do in the area. There are great opportunities for walking and running, with a wealth of paths both by Kielder water and up in the forest and all easy access from the cottage. The fishing on Kielder Water is good but next time we hope to try the river fishing offered at the property (time just ran out on us this time).
Just the fact that the week went so quickly...

Lovely comfortable well appointed converted barn in quiet open countryside.
The unmade track to the property needs attention. The pot-holes, which are being filled, make the final 1 mile of the journey unpleasant.
