Family-friendly and with a spectacular garden – Holiday Home Cala Bona

Pros: The garden is wonderful. There was so much space. Pool (although really cold as it was end of October), provided lots of fun for the children. The table tennis was great. There are so many books in many different languages, so reading for all. The gym was also used almost every day. The piano was also a wonderful addition as one person in our party could play, hadn't played in decades and really took to it again, even teaching some of the children. The house was clean and very spread out. Beautifully designed and decorated. The staff were very helpful. Everyone I contacted- super friendly. They even had milk, water and wine in a little welcome pack which meant we didn't have to go out and look for a store straight away- we could have a tea and coffee and take in the beautiful space. It really was a great experience. Cons: We had one issue with a bed however we resolved that problem and informed staff so they were aware. They didn't need to come and sort the issue as the house sleeps 8 and there were only 6 in our group. Plus I think I told them on the second to last day of our stay anyway so there wasn't anything for them to have to rush and sort out. As it is very lush and there is a beautiful pond, there are mosquitoes. However we were prepared (as most warm and lush places have mozzies) and brought plug ins with tablets and then discovered that the house had lots of the plug in tablets and liquid diffusers, so that was great as normally the homes we rent do not have anything. We did get a few bites but that is totally normal and we were out and about so not suggesting we were only bitten in the house! (Actually I got a huge bite dining in a restaurant garden 🤣) Apart from those two things listed above, I really can't think of anything to make you aware of. We had a really wonderful time here.

Pros: Space, garden and location Cons: some mosquitos

Starting with the negatives as there were far more positives to finish on! We had been worried about no air con, especially as it our first time in August. It is a huge, thick walled house with fans in each bedroom. Sleeping wasn't as hard as I feared, but you had to have the fan on a reasonable setting at the foot of each bed between you both. One of our friends found it harder to sleep in the heat. You would shower in the evening before going out but be sweating again by the time you are dressed! I don't understand why A.C hasn't been fitted as it would take this property into the 5* bracket! It would also ensure it was fully booked all year round with brilliant reviews (would probably help the damp smell downstairs too as rooms may be ventilated more often?) Also in the half (lesser used side) of the huge lovely garden there is a large pond with stagnant water in it. Much as it in an original stone feature of the garden it must have attracted more mosquitos, by which we all got pestered. I am aware we would have had some anyway but I'm sure we wouldn't have been bitten as much ! It ought to be filled in for this reason. It wasn't completely clean either, dusty under beds and ash trays in garden not emptied, but like I say it is a vast property and that didn't bother us much. Onto the good. Lovely pool large and well kept. Cleaned in the 10 days we were there but early am so didn't really notice. The kids spent many hours happily here. We are now all converts of a salt pool. It isn't noticeable at all and no chlorine stinging your eyes. It is a very private garden, perfect as you are so near to the sea front but so peacefully tucked away too. The gardens are beautiful, we wasted some of it as only used the half with the pool. But plenty of outdoor seating, eating areas and lawn. This property could actually house 3 families comfortably if the gym was converted into another en suite bedroom?? We didn't even use the 2nd lounge or upstairs terrace really. The property is already spread out enough to not be in each others space. We enjoyed having the piano there, and the books and games available that the kids used. It was equipped with all the facilities we needed. The position was absolutely perfect. The locked side gate, leads directly to a path to Cala Bona, 3 minutes walk away. The nearest pub being about 1 min walk. The harbour was lovely, loads of restaurants, shops and easy walk to Cala Millor. Would definitely return and recommend
