The Dragonfly cottage is a much-loved, very clean house with plenty of space and walking distance to the Bass Harbor lighthouse, Ship Harbor and Wonderland (1 mile). Very short drive to several excellent lobster stands on the harbor. Although the outside temp reached 90 during several days of our stay we were still able to sleep comfortably each night in the upstairs bedrooms and the downstairs bedrooms never felt damp even though they remained cool. The front yard had plenty of room for wiffle ball, and the house was equipped for anything you might need during your stay, perhaps more equipped than most other houses we have stayed in previously. Very quiet, no sounds from the campground or street traffic, even with windows open. We felt so welcome in this home that we almost felt like we were staying at a B&B and would definitely rent again.

The house was nice and spacious! The kitchen was clean and had a nice little coffee station. We were able to walk to the light house and the two nearby trails, which were beautiful. There were several places to eat close by, which was very nice! It was nice to be away from the crowds, but still convenient to get to many places on the island.

We had a great stay and the house had everything we needed for our visit to Mount Desert Island. We had my 91 yr old mother with us who is very mobile but could definitely have used some kind of grab bar in at least 1 of the showers. While not terribly noisy, you do hear noise from the campground directly across the street but because the campground is there, the island explorer bus stop is literally right there for ease in getting around the island without using your car. The Bass Harbor Lighthouse is a half mile away. We walked to it every day but beware the road is narrow and can get very busy and the only place to walk is on the road. The house was close to several trails that we took advantage of. The house doesn’t have very close access to the water but we were able to drive to close by Seawall and set up chairs on the rocks. The house was chock full of a great selection of local information including books and maps for us to use as well. During our downtime at the house we enjoyed the back deck, Adirondack chairs and fire pit. If we had had our grandchildren with us, they would have loved playing on the great outdoor Ark jungle gym and toys provided.
