I could not have found a place as close to what i was looking for as this cottage. A stressful remodel less than 10 miles away and what i needed most was to come here to feel safe and at peace. A little home away from home what more could an oldlady ask fir?

This is my fourth or fifth stay here over 2 years. I love this property and location! I don't rent a car when I stay here, because I can walk to coffee, dinner or pickleball. It's 7 min from my daughter at SDSU. The house has a great indoor / outdoor vibe which I enjoy. Thanks Willem and Brittany!

We had a wonderful stay at this charming cottage. The upstairs loft was ideal for my office work. The outdoor space is outstanding and the hot tub was an added treat. My trip to La Mesa was due to a family health emergency and I needed a place that was well situated to Sharp Grossmont hospital and because I was in town under stressful circumstances, I needed a place that could be a quiet sanctuary and respite for me - everything I could possibly need at home and nearby. This charming cottage was exactly what I needed at exactly the right time! I would have extended my stay if it hadn't already been booked. Hosts Brittany and Willem were amazing with their communication during the entire booking and rental process. Instructions were also easy. Although I did not use all the amenities available, I slept SO WELL and was so comfortable! Most importantly, this environment helped me stay strong under trying circumstances. A bonus find was the Millicent and Company Salon nearby. My hairdresser had a family emergency before I had to leave town, so I was thrilled to find a salon. I gave them a try and was extremely happy! Thank you Brittany and Willem for letting me rent your charming cottage! I would like to visit again, next time with my husband and on vacation, not a family emergency. Wishing you many blessings in the New Year!

Very roomy and charming. Large private garden area with covered patio and area for dining.outside. Check all the kitchen cabinets, as you find all kinds of neat things. Walk to downtown shops and dining. Quaint residential neighborhood. Easy parking. Would definitely stay again.

We have friends that live in La Mesa and wanted to stay near them. This charming cottage is in an ideal location. You can walk to cute coffee shops and many restaurants and the drive to San Diego is not bad! The backyard is relaxing with the swinging chair and hot tub. It was a little tricky for me to figure out how to get in the house but I am directionally challenged! We had a great stay and hope to be back.

Palm Cottage is perfect in every way. The house lives a lot larger than you would think; the loft is nice and private, the kitchen well designed and functional, and the outdoor spaces fantastic. The kitchen was generously outfitted with quality cooking implements. You can't beat the location for convenience; easy and plentiful parking, too. The linens were lovely and everything was model-home pristine. The hosts were incredibly responsive and helpful. We are looking for any excuse to return!

We spent our wedding weekend at the Palm Cottage and it was exactly what I wanted for our big day! The Cottage was clean and had everything we needed for the weekend. Brittany & Willem were very quick to respond and accommodating! I love that we’re able to drive by in a couple years and take photos in front of the Palm Cottage to remember our special day!

Kitchen had many modern updates and had everything we needed! We enjoyed cooking because of this lovely kitchen. High vaulted ceilings made it feel spacious. Beds were so comfortable. Outdoor area was much appreciated for relaxing and eating. We would definitely come back.

This property was very charming. The house and yard were very nice. A few notes of concern, the Hot Tub as dirty when we arrived, after a phone call, it was taken care of a day later. The trailer, I believe, had been cleaned, but the trash was full, dirty diaper..., some lights were burnt out and no hot water...., no soap in bathroom, etc again, loved the house, but for me, who ended up in the trailer, not so great.

We recently stayed at this beautiful La Mesa property, and loved its close proximity to Sprouts as well as shops and restaurants all within easy walking distance. The house was lovely inside with lots of special touches such as the gorgeous chandelier over the dining table and the framed window from the loft that opened up to the living space below. The house was a nice blend of vintage fixtures such as lights, faucets, refrigerator, etc. as well as modern features such as the beautiful countertops and new washer/dryer. There were quite a few kitchen items to use, and the house had several tv options as well. The owners also provided a manual explaining check-in/check-out as well as other frequently asked questions. My favorite part of this house was the outdoor area, which included a covered living space, bbq, hot tub, dining table with 6 chairs, gorgeous plants and string lights, and a fun trailer that served as an additional space to sleep, which our son loved! My husband and son had a “sleepover” together in the trailer, and I think that was our son’s favorite part of the whole trip even though we did fun things such as the zoo and beach. We were also able to invite our brother and sister-in-law over to join us for dinner on the patio, and that truly made our trip extra special. One of our favorite things to do when we travel, is to nickname the places we stay, and with how beautiful this house and property were, it seemed only fitting to name it the Black Beauty House. We would highly recommend this property and hope to stay there again the next time we visit San Diego.

This cottage is a nice hidden gem with a good outdoor oasis to enjoy, if weather permits. With updated kitchen and partially updated bathroom (the sink is very antiquated, with separate hot and cold faucets). Despite mild heating inconsistencies, the Palm Cottage still offers a nice getaway in a quiet, safe neighborhood with a view of Mission Hills! Good stay!

Palm Cottage knocks it out of the park if you're looking for a home with 100-year-old charm and a spacious backyard to relax. The house has an updated kitchen and bathroom, and has been thoughtfully furnished inside. Willem and Brittany were very communicative and even helped with a couple specific requests before our arrival. It was a little unclear how the Airstream is figured into the room count. The house itself only has a single shared bathroom and the upstairs loft bedroom does not have a door on it. If you're not planning on using the Airstream, it's better to consider this a 2 bed/1 bath rental, with one of those bedrooms not being private.

The host was definitely pleasant and attentive. The good was the house was in a choice location very close to the La Mesa downtown area and had a very nice backyard. The challenges, when we arrived the Jacuzzi was empty and water was all over the patio from it being drained? The owner offered to fix it that day but we had driven from Florida and just wanted to settle in to the cottage. The house is 100 years old so it had some issues relating to its age. The house had single pane windows so the street noise and barking dog next door were challenging. The doors didn’t line up so locking and unlocking them was very difficult. The wall heater was inefficient so we were cold, we actually slept on the couch for the first three nights because the bedroom was not being heated. In the only bathroom the water pressure wasn’t sufficient, hot water was very weak meaning after one shower the next person showering had little to no hot water and the sink faucets were very loose and the water hammer was very difficult to deal with. The owner said he’d send out his handyman but because of Covid we choose just deal with it... It’s a nice place with nice touches but needs some work on the plumbing and heating....

The location of this property is excellent due to the proximity of the quaint, historic town of La Mesa. The home is located one block from shopping, restaurants, boutiques, etc. It has all the comforts of home. It is very private due to the property being fenced & we enjoyed the hot tub that is surrounded by lush vegetation. The owner was very nice & easy to get a hold of by phone. It is close to the airport, beaches & other local attractions. Easy access to anywhere in the San Diego area since the highways are nearby. We highly recommend staying at this adorable home in the heart of La Mesa, "The Jewel of the Hills".

We just completed a month long stay at Palm Cottage as we were helping out in La Mesa with our newborn grandson. The cottage was perfect for us as we traveled back and forth from our home each week. First, it is a charming older home that has been updated inside to have all of the conveniences you need. The beds are comfortable, great linens and lots of pillows. The kitchen is really well stocked with everything you will need including all cleaning supplies. The bathroom has a large walk-in shower, great towels and well supplied with soaps, etc. There is a lovely, shaded outdoor area where we had coffee and breakfast each morning and an additional large outdoor dining table which we did not have the opportunity to use. The home is situated one block from the main street where you can find lots of restaurants primarily doing takeout at this this time. We enjoyed smoothies from Swami’s for lunch almost every day (highly recommended). Despite being this close to “downtown” the home is nice and quiet and you will not be bothered by traffic noise. This was really the perfect situation for us and we hope to be coming back soon.

My wife and I really enjoyed staying here for a few days and found a lot to enjoy. My original goal in searching this area was to find something unique, and this house definitely fit the bill. It is very old but has a lot of modern touches and the decor is very nice. The back yard space was one of our favorite parts, with beautiful landscaping and a very comfy back porch to relax in. We also loved using the hot tub which was very well kept. Probably the most unique part was the trailer in the yard which we loved having our morning coffee and enjoying the cute decor inside. We loved the overall atmosphere and there were plenty of amenities and supplies for us. The house is located just a short walk away from a whole street of stores and restaurants, and the drive to the beach is just over 20 minutes. The hosts were also very accommodating to us when we made a couple mistakes checking in and getting into the house, which we really appreciate. We would highly recommend it to anyone.

The home and property was perfect. It included everything you need to enjoy a weekend home away from home. The house and neighborhood has a lot of history to it being the house is100 years old. The house is well kept and includes everything. The house was very charming and cozy, the property was well kept. Hot tub was great after a long day of walking. We didnt sleep in the vintage trailer but ended up sitting in there and relaxing. Ended exploring la Mesa more than expected, love this town. Lots of great places to eat near the house. I was very impressed with the look and feel of the house. Very well decorated. We were able to use the kitchen to cook a nice big meal. The only flaw I have and it's one that isn't the home owners fault, would be the neighbors dog seemed to bark alot while we were enjoying the back yard. But that's a minor complaint. We were very pleased with the property and would go back again. :)
