Very authentic and clean

The host is wonderful, very friendly, discreet, reliable and in love with the desert! I thought, I was really lucky that he took me into the desert alone on an amazingly authentic trekking (usually in my experience you can't organise this as a solo traveller) for a very fair price. We were walking right from the house into the desert and back, camels for carrying the luggage, camping two nights in the desert... it's absolutely worth while! The guest house is nice and has everything you need. The private transport to Tozeur I booked beforehand worked just fine and I regret not having booked the private transport to Douz through him as well.

It's not negative at all, but I think, you need to be aware of this. The house is located outside Douz and as a solo traveler without a car or bike, you can't really go anywhere or do anything... Also, communication other than in French will be difficult. It may be my fault really, but I didn't expect the desert tour to be as authentic as it was. For myself, I can't stay days without toilet and shower facilities, so three days (two nights) were just about right (the maximum for me really). Also, there's no electricity in the desert (no WiFi etc.)... I didn't mind though, it was actually good for smart phone detox!;-) Ideally, you should plan to stay one night in the house before and after your desert trekking. There are toilet, shower and electricity in the house (WiFi worked fine - even in the room next to the shared area).

Breakfast was good but mostly from packets. No evening meals available. Wonderful location in the desert but hard to find because there are no signs to it and the road at first appeared impassable due to sand. Kind and helpful host arranged a 4x4 trip for us over the dunes.

Rooms could be brighter with better lighting and painted walls. Ensuite facilities are behind curtains. Insect repellent needed during our stay.
