Southern Tides at Rodanthe Sunset Retreat — Corner Sunsets, Winter Fires
The corner position changes everything. Southern Tides looks out over the Pamlico Sound to both the west and the south, so the evening show — kiteboarders carving the shallows, the sky going gold, then crimson — plays wider and lasts longer here than anywhere else in the building. Watch it from the hot tub on the expansive balcony, or from inside through 10-foot sliding glass doors under vaulted ceilings.
Built for Every Season
Here's the part most soundfront rentals can't offer: from November 15 through March 1, the gas fireplace is yours to use — sunset over the water, a fire in the hearth, and Rodanthe's off-season quiet all around. It's the rare OBX stay that might be at its best in January.
Every bedroom earns its keep: a king master, a second king bedroom, and a third with two twins — all with King Sealy mattresses (yes, even the twins get the good sleep treatment... confirm that phrasing against reality) and 32" TVs, with a 60" 4K Smart TV anchoring the living room. The modern open kitchen handles slow breakfasts and full gatherings, with a Keurig for the mornings.
Beds are made on arrival, a washer and dryer are in the unit, Wi-Fi is complimentary, and pets are welcome ($150 plus tax per pet).

The community leans into the sound: a sound front pool, a private dock for water activities, a dedicated kiteboarding launch area, BBQ grilling, ground-level storage, covered parking, and elevator access (a community amenity, not controlled by the homeowner, and not guaranteed). The ocean beach is a 500-yard stroll — both waters, one address.

The condo is very well laid out. We hated the tv as it had very limited cha nel selection. Non functional ice maker. This being our first time in outer banks, we will stay nags head next time.

Overall we liked the accommodations and our stay overall. My only grievance is that we were not advised in the listing that the pool would be closed. Listing mentioned that the gas fireplace would not be available but made no mention of the pool. That’s a key amenity to leave out of the listing. Weather was great and we would have used it. We were also not offered any credit for their oversight when we inquired. Thank god we had no children with us. Last is the sliding glass doors. These three panes/door are not clear and you can’t see outside clearly as they each have white residue on the “inside” of the glass between the two panes and can’t be cleaned. If we were not direct waterfront then I wouldn’t care as much but I payed for a clear and unobstructed view from the inside. These doors need to be either serviced or replaced. Also hard to open which is likely why the metal door handle was broken. Final note, walkway to the pool is stone, not concrete so not handicap accessible.

Great location with a view of the Sound. Pool area could use some umbrellas and tables, overall great lounge chairs.
Neptune’s is a local bar next door with good food and Karaoke. Pretty quiet neighborhood.

the good:
Location, location , location......... is great!!!!!! Couldn't be better than that.Designated parking area for one car under the building also great. Outdoor shower with hot/cold water and an outdoor locker room for the beach chairs, umbrella and toys is a bonus.
refrigerator is big enough to hold a lot of food.

SUNSET was amazing to watch from this property.
The bad:
the electronic lock on the door didn't work upon on our arrival. we waited 15-20 min to get in. the living room was a little dusty.
This property need a major makeover. the ceiling is pealing of and on the corners is cracked.
Internet is very slow. TVs have only 13 channels. If you wanna watch TV Bring your own streaming device. The TV in the living room works fine but the TVs in the bedrooms need a streaming device.
the jacuzzi that was listed didn't work.
overall we hade a great stay
If this rental will have a makeover i will rent it again
