What an incredible property the rooms were huge so much space and you felt like a princess with all the sheet curtains on the beds. The home is constructed so beautifully so much incredible design built into nature the ceilings and stone and cabinetry was like an oasis. We ordered food to our room every day because we never wanted to leave.
The pool was magnificent and the view was breathtaking amongst the jungle what a beautiful escape. I couldnt fault it in any area. We also spent NYE at Amok sunset which was stunning and also so convenient we could walk there! The staff were always ready to help super supportive and helpful
Only wish was that it was that it was a little closer to other things but at the same time that’s why it was a good escape

It would be lovely if the menu was more varied as you are a long way from anything so have little options. Without taxi there is nowhere to go, so perfect for wanting a complete relax - the view is superb. The rooms are a good size and the staff very accommodating.
The menu could have been better and more Indonesian. There were lots of insects, so insect repellant in the rooms would have been good.

We loved everything here except the road to the hotel. 😅 Clean, really spacious, beautiful room, great and helpful staff. Breakfast was good and even loved the location. It’s a nice hotel in the middle of the nature, with friendly neighbours, the monkeys. Would love to come back again.
The road to the hotel is a bit tricky. But i think all roads on Nusa Penida are quite tricky 😅

Amazing service, super helpful and kind staff, amazing views from the pool, cute cottage. Also loved getting the breakfast delivered to our room. The breakfast was tasty too!
Too noisy for us, with all the noise from the outside easily getting into the cottage, far away from restaurants apart from only 1 which was super nice but very limited in options

The breakfast was great especially the fruit juices . The dinners were a bit bland and compared to the dinners at the Amok Bar just two kilometres away they were pretty ordinary. However, the real appeal of the Tanah Damai are the gardens and the wildlife like the monkeys and the geckos. The rustic quality of the rooms is superb with the great addition of the mosquito nets and the wood carving. By the villas there is a lovely pool with a view over Gamat Bay. On the human level the front of house lady was also charming and helpful. Summing up this was a unique property and great value.
Possibly the dinners were a bit bland but I find all Balinese food compared to other Indonesian food a bit disappointing .

We stayed in a suite the hotel and it was a great experience. Our room was very large, beautiful and atmospheric. Amazing balcony with a great view and the staff were lovely.
The road near the hotel isn’t great, especially at night on a scooter.

The room was nicely decorated.
I would NOT advise at all, the manager from the hotel RUINED our trip to Nusa Penida, we didn’t do what we came here to do, which was snorkeling - the day we arrived we planned an itinerary with her staff and price, the next morning 5 to 10 minutes before it was time to leave according to the new planning of the manager, she announces us her changes that includes timing and pricing. We were just having breakfast as planned and she wanted us to leave the next 5 minutes, which was VERY unprofessional, as we weren’t ready we were supposed to leave in 40 minutes. She ruined our day and trip as it was the only thing we came here to do. The breakfast wasn’t good neither, the eggs were a miss, it was not an American breakfast- overall everything was wrong there. - showing pics from our room NO SEA VIEW, it’s a nice view but no sea….

Amazing place and service. The view from the pool is amazing and it's possible to see monkeys

I can see the intention: beautiful remote location with a view, nice architecture, smaller setting. However, there are many things that aren’t at the standard expected for such a place and the price charged.
We liked the gorgeous suite room, the open bathrooms, the view from the pool, the visiting monkeys, the kind staff.
We loved Gamat Bay.
Buildings and infrastructure not very well maintained. Bedrooms downstairs in the villa smelt very damp, even though they have AC, junk left just outside one of the Windows,, when you exit the beautiful suite, first thing you see is a concrete shack. There was a huge hole and some smaller ones in the mosquito net, the bathroom fixtures have seen better days. Restaurant has very limited options, they could not make lunch for us on our last day even though we gave them 2 hours notice as they had suggested. The pool is cute and small but water was cloudy. The beach is not 200m away, it takes a good 15 min to get there and 20 to come back up as it’s a steep hill.
Small things could easily make it better: the fan in the suite is old and rusty. The water fountain could be placed in a less visible place, the parasols at the pool could be replaced and lounge chair cushions washed…

Very secluded and surrounded by thick forest which was what we were after. The pool views are great and the staff are really friendly and welcoming!!
Food was good :)
Had a cute dog roam the property which was nice.
The pictures are a bit misleading regarding the rooms. As soon as we reached the property the staff mentioned there is no AC and brought out a hand fan which was sufficient but not what’s expected when you pay the amount you pay.
The room design is full of holes and gaps which looks good but isn’t practical as lots of insects and lizards come in easily.
We were always worried about having insects in our room, bathroom because of it.
It is fully in the middle of nature which is understandable but for the price you pay there can be better amenities

The staff was very kind and helpful
Breakfast was poor (and in particular the bread was clearly past its point), pool water was not clear (clearly lacked proper maintenance), at some point we had brown water in the toilet flush, room had openings to the outside which allowed bugs to come in.
it felt like the whole hotel was managed in a very amateurish way (no ID for check in, we were told we had to check out 1h before because a new guest was coming in).
The hotel has great potencial and the staff is great but it needs better management. Don’t recommend.

I loved this hotel! The rooms are very well curated as well the common area. We had very good breakfast and assistance from the staff! The hotel really reflect the spirit of this amazing island.

Rooms are just like the pictures, with a great integration between the building and nature. Good temperature even without air conditioning. Nice view from the pool. Everything was clean and organized. Restaurant has good food.
Although it seems close to attractions and other spots, you definitely need to drive a scooter or get a taxi to visit most of the beaches. Rooms have a lot of openings in the walls/ceiling, which allow insects/animals to get in sometimes. Staff is friendly and welcoming, but most of them doesn’t speak English if you need to discuss any particular issues.

AMAZING, exactly that we were looking for. Only a few villas lost in the wild forest, peaceful, beautiful… best place to disconnect from the world.
And food… best we had during our trip in the islands, affordable and super tasty. Staff are also super kind and helpful!
Maybe the road… but it’s part of the charm of the place.

Beautiful view from the pool which sells the property well
the first images are all from the villa on the hotel, not actually part of the normal rooms. We found our room was by far not as organised and clean. the bathroom was falling apart, sink leaking as well as the taps, there was rust all over the shower. Sheets were not clean, curtains had stains on them. Understandable in Indonesia but not if still charged at $80 a night

We chose this hotel as our last stop in Indonesia, after spending time in Ubud and Munduk. Great choice! The staff was so kind and helpful (special thank you to Widi and Nofita!) and always had genuine smiles on their faces. The owner did a great job with their choice of employees. The food was exceptional. All local and homemade (make sure you try the vegan pancakes for breakfast!). As others have noted: the hotel doesn't serve lunch but that shouldn't stop you from booking as there is a lovely sunset resto/bar less than 10 mins away by foot. It's a lovely walk through banana (and other) trees and you will get the chance to see chickens, roosters, beautiful brown cows and dogs along the way. We stayed in the Suite which is located above another room and we're delighted with this choice. There is no air conditioning but it wasn't needed either as there was a lovely breeze through the openings in the room. The suite has the best view as there's a covered balcony going around it. We spent our early evenings reading in the comfortable chairs on the balcony, listening to the birds and geckos and watching the colors in the sky change. Speaking of geckos and animals: yes, you hear the geckos and the roosters and you occasionally see the geckos in the room but the sounds and sight of wildlife didn't stop us from sleeping in and having a good night's rest. We only saw a gecko in our room once and it didn't do anything. If anything, it was scared of us so I would really encourage you all to not be worried about this. I'm a light sleeper so had packed ear plugs after reading the reviews below but ended up not using them at all. Wildlife sights and sounds are part of life in Indonesia and we need to adapt to that as visitors. It's something special :) We found the location so peaceful and calm that it was really hard to leave. Hugely recommended!!
There is nothing we didn't like about this hotel.
To note: As other travelers have mentioned, the road leading up to the hotel is not great but that's because the government has yet to finance and repair it and is in no way the fault of the hotel owners. When using Booking, it is common practice to read up on past reviews so this should come as no surprise to anyone.

Lost in jungle and nature.
Fantastic view and great location on island.
3 minutes from “Amok Sunset” best view.
Staff and owners are more than helpful.
We will definitely return.
They did not offer me to stay longer !

Great hospitality, very nice staffs, they arranged for transportation with genuine price. Amazing pool view
Water is salty, wash basin or shower everywhere it was salty, and there were weird sounds near our cottage roof at night when it was raining as if something was scratching it

The location was great, the staff were wonderful and the food was really good too, especially the breakfast! Our bungalow was basic/rustic but very clean and very comfortable. The stone shower room was good!

Located in the forest, it is an escape from busy touristic places. The villa has open spots, so you can feel that you sleep in the nature. Staff was friendly.
Around 15 mins from one harbour, which is ok. Last 7-8 mins are on a bumpy road. You can only move with motorbike, that can rent from hotel, or a taxi. There are no restaurants on a walking distance from the hotel, so if you do not have motorbike, have to dine only in there.

Charming hotel in the middle of the jungle. We booked the room in the first floor and were amazed by the lovely decoration and XXL size of the room itself. Friendly and helpful staff.
Road to get there is poorly maintained, tricky to drive there with a scooter. Limited mobility around given the status of the roads. We didn’t mind the monkeys running around or balcony and the geckos.

The pool was amazing. The bed was super comfy.
Mosquitoes can be a problem for some people during the rain season. The access road to the hotel could be better.

Amazing infinity pool with jungle view, super friendly service, delicious food, big rooms and great location :)
From my point of view nothing negative, but be prepared that there is no air conditioner in the room and that when you turn on the light people might be able to look into your room, but as it is super quite and the rooms are not close to each other there were never people walking around, so no problem for us :)
