After our original property reservation was cancelled within 48 hours of our arrival in Ft. Lauderdale, we were rebooked at The Beach Walk Resort. Although only 10 miles from where we originally booked, with spring break and South Florida traffic the daily round trips to visit family and the areas we wanted to visit took 45-minutes to an hour each way. Upon check-in at The Beach Walk we discovered this new, two bedroom condo was anything but. It’s a hotel room adjoined to a one bedroom unit. We had to use dining chairs to prop open the doors so the units actually adjoined—kind of a big deal when traveling with young children. Two of the beds were unmade and there were no linens. There was leftover/spoiled food in the fridge. The master bathroom was filthy. The first night of our stay we had to purchase cleaning products and thoroughly scrub the entire space. The coffee table was so disgusting I asked that it be removed but it never was. We had to wash dishes before using them as they still had food on them but no dish towels were provided. There was a smoke detector dangling from the wall and batteries were removed. We were not provided wash clothes. There are only two elevators for the 30 floor building. You had to account for at least a 15 minute wait each time you entered or exited the building. There’s no service elevator so housekeeping would cram into already crowded elevators with their carts and supplies. The shuttle to the beach seats 8 people and was never available and causing frustration for guests. The pool is small, closes at 7 pm and due to COVID capacities could only accommodate 24 people—however the resort includes two towers with 30 floors each. Cleanliness would have gone a long way. For several days I walked past food crushed into the carpet in the hallway before it was ever attended to. Overall cleanliness would have gone a long way but we were never able to relax. Having our original reservations cancelled by VRBO with such little time and inventory to rebook did not get our trip off to a great start. Staying at this property described as new was nothing but DECEPTIVE.
