Restorative, peaceful and beyond needed- comfort nestled in the Cairngorm Forest.

The location of the Bothies is utterly perfect for those who are looking to find peace and tranquility in nature while still being within reach of shops. We booked a long weekend back in May but had to reschedule due to a family emergency. The lovely people who run the Bothies were so incredibly accommodating and compassionate and helped us reschedule our trip for September. Everything was so cosy and perfect, we’re already scheming on another trip as it was so restorative. Easy to find, close by to a Co op so we could do a quick shop for food, and nearby lots of walks!

Beautiful, quiet and tranquil location - back to nature

Beautiful secluded location, bothies set with a nice distance apart so you aren’t directly facing onto others, also seen plenty of unique wildlife nearby!

Two of the bothies near us had been booked by a group who were only there to drink and be loud at night, disturbing the quiet peaceful nature through the evening/night time. However this is nothing to do with the bothie stay itself, we just got unlucky with the neighbours!

We had a brilliant stay at the Cairngorm Bothies from start to finish. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and we loved waking up to birdsong in such a peaceful, scenic setting. The location is perfect for a chilled romantic getaway — surrounded by beautiful woodland, fresh Highland air, and the soothing sounds of nature. The bothy itself was spotless, well-equipped, and finished to a high standard, with great quality linen, cosy touches, and everything we could possibly need for a relaxing break. Shauna was amazing — so caring, friendly, and genuinely helpful, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. Her warm welcome and local tips made our stay even more special. We left feeling completely refreshed and recharged.

Love from the newlyweds

We had said in a message that it was part of our honeymoon from our wedding the weekend before, and the staff had gone out their way to put up some beautiful decorations for us... the bothie was beautiful and so cosy, we also loved the experience of cooking on the wood fire stove... 10/10 for the shower and water pressure that was amazing. Also, the games left were a very nice touch. We also had a good few walks and went to see all there was to offer, the little town of Ballater was very holsome and would recommended stopping for a meal in the local indian restaurant, all in all we would recommend the bothies any day and will definitely book again in the future.

Absolutely fantastic mind clearing time away.

Absolutely loved the peace and quiet of the place.

An electric shower as a pose to the mixer, the one time in Scotland we actually reached 30 degrees and the last thing we wanted to do was light the fire for the hot water, but for the one off occasion it was fine, will be fantastic when the snow comes and the fire is roaring anyway.

Perfect for a cosy, quiet, secluded area, very clean and cosy, comfortable bed. lots of firestarts and logs, everything you need for a relaxing nature getaway

Everything was perfect but id suggest a little welcome pack of tea/coffee for guests arriving. Body wash and shampoo would have been a nice addition.

It was comfortable and cute and the location was outstanding.

Could have done with a bit more crockery and cutlery. We were short of a glass and a fork as family of four. The oven was also missing a proper tray. Other than that the place was perfect and quirky.

Amazing place to stay can't rate it any higher.

The bothies are so cozy, in an Amazing location its very peaceful and quiet. Have everything you need and the co-op is only 15 mins away by car. Will definitely stay here again can't rate this place any higher its the perfect little get away for a weekend.

Only down aide the showers are not hot without the log burner being on and the weather was definitely hot enough so didnt want the fire on as well but a cold shower is just as great definitely a way to wake you up in the morning.

Amazing location within the forest staying in a beautiful log cabin. We've always stayed in hotels so this was our first time staying in a facility like this and my, what a fantastic experience! the peace and quiet, lighting the fire, great location to explore nearby villages and breathtaking scenery of the Cairngorms. The interior of the cabin was high quality, spotlessly clean with everything you need. Quality bedding and furniture throughout. Fantastic shower. Will definitely be back!

Absolute gem of peace and tranquility

Absolutely stunning location with great walks and complete peace! Lots of songbirds and a happy woodpecker. The bothy was well equipped, warm, and the stove provided heat, hot water (with fantastic pressure) and a wonderful aroma. The beds were comfy and it was the perfect spot for a weekend getaway.

The perfect cosy woodland retreat!

The real home from home feel! Everything we needed at the property, so less to pack, which was great! Excellent location and very clear instructions on how to get there provided before hand as Sat navs can be unreliable. They really thought of everything!

A lot of rubble/rubbish lying around the ruins, which is fine, as its clearly a work in progress, but could be a bit of a hazard.

Beautiful location in the woods. Comfortable children’s bed with pull out bed. Looked nice - wooden cabin.

Wrong keyboard code was provided in information. Had to phone and leave a voicemail, although the host arrived at this time and found the code for us quickly. Cabin has VERY low doorways throughout and we banged our heads on them. Wood provided for stove was all wet soft wood which made the cabin very smoky every time you opened the stove door. (you need to have stove on to get hot water) No paths to the cabin just muddy ground. Not great when it rains (a lot) in Scotland 😂 No spare bin bags or cleaning products available. Nothing comfortable to sit on. Co2 alarm had been covered up with a plaster by someone!

The Cairngorms Bothies

Staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was stunning and there was plenty of places to visit. Very peaceful and quiet. You have lots of walks on your doorstep and wildlife. Balmoral is not too far where there is an abundance of places to explore. We visited Loch Muick where we saw so many red deer and an Eagle. We visited Balmoral Castle where we saw the red Squirrels. Prince Albert's piramid and so many Stine circles and nature reserves were visited too. Would definitely go back to the Cairngorms bothies. It such a great place. It is basic but comfortable so don't go expecting all the home comforts. It is off grid and back to basics.

For us there was nothing that we didn't like.

Lovely place to stay and perfect for dogs

Really loved staying here, fab location and Bothie. Stove was easy to use and warmed the shower up very quickly The nature reserve is around 5 minutes away to drive and is beautiful which had lots of lovely dog walks

Emailed in advance to ask if bedding was provided for sofa bed as I was coming with a family member and recieved a rather stern reply regarding this which appeared to acuse me of bringing other guests I hadn't booked on which wasn't the case, no apology was offered when I pointed out this was not the case
