Hotel Maderanegra By Huasicama

This was just a cute, quiet hotel that we totally fell in love with! Estefany was simply fantastic - kind, helpful, and attentive to our needs. She was willing to get up early to make sure we had a good breakfast before an early morning departure, took care of any problems that arose, and helped us secure our vehicle for 3 days while hiked the nearby Quilatoa Loop (a must if you're a hiker and enjoy challenging terrain and amazing views!). The room was quiet, with great mountain views and comfortable beds. We enjoyed a glass of wine (we provided) in the evening in the spacious common room, chatting with friends as we prepared for our morning hike. It was a great stay - made better by a wonderful hostess!

There wasn't much not to like. I suppose the water pressure might have been stronger, but we had hot water which hasn't always been the case in our travels. The roughest part was having to walk up the hill to get back to the hotel after an afternoon in city.

The breakfast was fairly average and we had to pay for luggage storage despite it not being listed as a paid service on booking.com

We really enjoyed our stay. The hotel feels friendly and comfortable, with a beautiful design full of wood, which also nicely matches its name Maderanegra. The man working in the hotel was extremely friendly and helpful. He explained many things to us, even checking the bus schedule. Our room was clean and medium-sized, with a practical wardrobe and plenty of hooks for clothes and bags. Breakfast was a simple but good start to the day (coffee, juice, cheese sandwich, fruit). Not a huge variety, but enough. Latacunga is a good base (much closer than from Quito) to visit Laguna Quilotoa (by cheap public bus from the terminal) and Cotopaxi Nationalpark (by tour).

The location is a bit mixed: the hotel is uphill from the center. There are a couple of restaurants nearby, but most options are in town, about a 10-minute walk away. The streets can feel very empty at night, nothing unsafe happened, but it was a bit quiet. On the plus side, from the hotel you might get a view of Cotopaxi volcano, which is amazing. The all-day coffee station was not available on two of the three days of our stay.

The inside was pretty with the wood.

They played very loud music throughout the hotel until 9pm at which point I went down to reception to ask them to turn it off which they reluctantly did. Every time I turned on my shower, it only had cold water and I had to go to reception to ask them to turn the heater on again. The sheets did not seem clean.
