Hotel First Kingdom - For forigners only

very nice place

We stayed in February 2022. Hotel is located in a quiet neighbourhood quite a distance away from the main historical sites and the centre of the city though there are places to eat and grocery shops within 20 mins walking distance. It takes about 20 mins by tuk-tuk to get to the bus stands or the train station. We rented bicycles to tour the sites and the city. The room was modern and recently built to a very good standard. The owner is helpful, personable and dedicated to a good guest experience. Best bonus for us on a long trip was access to a laundry washing machine. AC was excellent. We were not offered breakfast as the kitchen was in the process of being built but this was not a problem.

The wi-fi is adequate and based on a 4G router so if you do not have a local data sim it can be used for simple email and messaging. However, as data costs the owner money to charge up the account he is (perfectly understandably) reluctant after 2 years of no income to constantly charge it up for data hungry streaming etc. This was not a problem for us as the room and the service was excellent but if intending to 'work' online be aware that you may eat data quickly if video conferencing etc. (so come equipped with a local sim).

Very clean and modern hotel. Owner is really nice and helpful and even drove us all the way to Kandy. It is a convenient location to visit tourist sites and town but is on a nice quiet street. You'll need to hail a tuk tuk to get to restaurants/ town.
