AMARA AYURVEDA RETREAT- Overlooking Evergreen Western Ghats an ecologically sustainable living space in Kovalam

I spent five nights at Amara Ayurveda and really enjoyed it.It was rainy season which didn’t hamper my stay and I could call the golf buggy to pick me up if I needed. There were umbrellas available all over the property. I had wanted to get out in nature after having completed a 21 Ayurvedic cleanse somewhere else.The staff were so lovely, the food was delicious, my room was beautiful, really large and so tastefully decorated. The view into the distant mountains was stunning and there were so many birds. I used the pool which was lovely and clean and towels were provided pool side. I met with the resident Ayurvedic Dr who was so knowledgeable and articulate. I ended up having two treatments which were really relaxing. You can easily go to the beach or Trivandrum for an outing but I wasn’t interested and enjoyed reading and soaking up the environment. I would definitely go back again.

The cleaning staff came only once to clean my room when I requested. It’s very hilly so not great for walking.

Nothing! When calling a taxi, they were always having trouble finding the location. Maybe they could put signs at the beginning of the road as well to help people to find the place more easily

Very off-hand, borderline rude staff on checking in. Took us to a twin room when we had asked for a double. Moved us to a room with a small double bed with only one bedside table and really stained and dirty sheets and pillow cases. Windows were all dirty, broken window and no balcony. After first night, we checked what we had booked and we should have had a premium villa room. No apology offered but moved us to a much better room after we made a fuss. Had also booked all inclusive but food choice was so limited compared to other hotels we’d stayed at that we ate out instead. Probably aimed at people interested in Ayurvedic treatments and yoga so no alcohol served and no fridges in rooms in case you want to buy your own. Overall very disappointing for the price and not representative of other hotels we stayed in during our trip.
