I rarely ever leave reviews, even for bad stays, but this place truly deserves a warning. I travel constantly and spend more time in hotel beds than in my own, in any given year of the past 10 years, and I can honestly say this was one of the most unpleasant experiences I’ve had. The only positive thing here is the sea view, if you get the sea view room — and even that can’t make up for how bad the rest is. Overpriced “shuttle” trap: They claim to have a shuttle from the airport, but it’s not a shuttle — it’s a pre-booked taxi, with a 45€ price tag attached to it. But once you are in, and arrive at the hotel, the taxi meter showed 31 €. A real scam!! For the return, they wanted 35 €, yet I easily booked an Uber, which are metered taxi, myself and the taxi meter was 26€ + a 2€ booking fee, It’s misleading and unfair to guests. I’ve attached the price of the fare for the way back to the airport. I asked the drive once I was back the airport if I were to go back how much should I expect he said 28 to 33 normally. When I told him about this 45 charge he was shocked, and he told me I am not the only guest he picked up from that hotel that were not happy with their stay. This practice should absolutely be outlawed. I would understand an extra 5 euro to set it all up from Airport to Hotel. No basic amenities: There’s no shampoo, no body wash, no lotion — only a tiny bar of soap. That’s it. For a paid stay, it’s unacceptable. Cleanliness — completely neglected: The bathroom was shockingly dirty. The toilet seat had visible stains that clearly hadn’t been checked or cleaned. I didn’t even bother asking for it to be redone; I simply avoided using it and went to a café nearby instead. It shows a total lack of care or standards. Old, depressing furniture: Not sure if they are try to sell it as “vintage,” but what they did it’s definitely no longer charming — it’s just old, worn out and full of dust. So much so, that when speaking to another guest at the coffee shop near by, they were telling me they got an asthma crisis when getting into their room. Now, I cannot confirm or deny this, but not sure why he would have make this up if it wasn’t true. The place looks like it hasn’t been updated since the 1970s: floral couches, scratched wood, and décor that feels stuck decades in the past. What should feel nostalgic instead feels abandoned. Locked doors and missing staff: The main door is literally locked at times, and the front desk is often empty. I waited nearly 30 minutes just to check out because nobody was there. Completely unprofessional. The area: The neighborhood feels forgotten. The beach is fine if you don’t mind cigarette butts and a mix of rocks and sand. There are a few decent restaurants nearby, but the entire area feels 20-30 years past its prime. Final word: If you’re looking for comfort, cleanliness, or reliability, this is not the place. The view can’t save the neglect and outdated condition. I wish I could rate it below one star. Truly disappointing — avoid it at all costs. My photos do speak for themselves, I would say harsher words but I will keep it civil. Last point: the restaurant next door, on the right, was where I went for supper after arriving. The waiter asked me where I was staying. When I told him I was next door, he laughed told me to run fast and far from that hotel, then laughed while walking away. Even the neighbourhood has rumours about that hotel. This alone should tell you all you need to know about this place. I should have went with my other colleagues to their hotel in Athens, but I wanted to go swim in the sea. Grave mistake.

Nireus is right on the waterfront in Nea Makri. Older style hotel with everything you need. Staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. Short walk to numerous cafes and restaurants. Thanks to Hotel Nireus.
