Hotel Emblemático San Marcos

The check-in / check-out was very smooth, despite us arriving late in the evening and leaving early in the morning. The breakfast was really good and the person who prepared it was very sweet and accommodating. The location of the hotel was good to as it was near the pedestrian area of the town. Also, the old style of the hotel is charming.

The room faced the street which was quite loud and we didn’t have a balcony or any other place to comfortably sit or hang out while we were in the room - which we sadly had to do more often than planned as not many restaurants/places were open in the evening during the time we were there (end of May).

Very quirky

Parking was difficult. No hot food for breakfast as equipment was not working. I was charged for drinking water in the room.

Beautiful old hotel with only 6 rooms, one of the nights it was just us, the staff welcome you and then let you have your stay in peace. It is an old building so it's a bit creaky but very charming and the historical area it is in is very very quiet at night, so even though the windows were old sash style it did not bother us at all. Except Festival de San Marcos night which was great fun to take part in. There's a lovely courtyard and area beyond it where you can sit and read. The breakfast, made mainly by Anna (the main staff member there in the mornings) was lovely and copious. A great start to the day for sight seeing. The beds were really comfortable, I thought they looked hard but then realised they're memory foam so they were super comfortable. We had one of the rooms without balcony, first floor, street side (room 5), but we did have a lovely second area with wardrobes before the bathroom that I think some of the others didn't. If needed there's a nice sitting room as well as the outside space. Depending on the Icod weather as it can be cloudy! We didn't use it though. Although check in was before 8pm, if you arrive later there is a number to call on the door and a gentleman kindly came and let us in and we checked in formally the next day (due to flight times). We had called ahead to say we'd be late. Icod is a great centre to base yourself in to then visit the surrounding area, Playa de la Cruz, Masca (our favourite), Garanchico or even go an hour to the more popular Costa Adeje for the day where it's warmer. We were happy we chose Icod and this hotel.

Nothing relating to the hotel really, everything was great really. I even thought it would be noisy with the other customers because the building is quite old but we didn't hear anyone at night, it was great (our room did not adjoin any others on our floor). Parking is a bit tricky, when it says free parking available, it means street parking and the roads near the hotel are one way, also Google maps seems to have a bit of an issue with Icod so we took a while to find it, but once you get used to it it's all good! (our visit was end of April). Word of warning on the hotel name in Google maps - there are two Emblematico hotels in Icod! We accidentally went to the wrong one first.

The lounge and garden were lovely. The breakfast was good.

Bedroom no 2 was dark and cold. It gave directly on to the street with no glass in the lower part of the window, only wooden shutters, hence every noise from the street felt like it was coming into the room. The toilet seat was broken, despite 3 requests to fix it. We found it impossible to have a shower without getting water all over the flour. There was no ceiling to the en suite so every sound carried through to the bedroom. The dining room was cramped and staff didn’t clear away used plates etc during the meal. The rooftop terrace wasn’t operating.
