About this cottage rental

Welcome to The Gatehouse, our family cottage since 1970 - that grew! It is a large 4 bedroom vintage/rustic cottage that offers three bedrooms on the upper floor, and the largest bedroom on the main floor. The living room and dining room features a cozy gas fireplace with 20 ft ceilings. Three wineries are within easy walking distance. Relax on the large deck facing a huge yard with a view of the lake in the distance. The public beach and harbour are a 10-15 minute walk and it is a short stroll to a country diner located in quaint Colchester Village, in Ontario Canada. There are designated bike paths on road side for those seeking exercise. We are a year-round cottage and invite you to stay in all seasons.

About this cottage rental

Welcome to The Gatehouse, our family cottage since 1970 - that grew! Absolutely a perfect location - walkable for visiting the wineries. The place has everything you need for a great wine focused trip with friends. We all enjoyed it.

This was a cozy place for me and my friends to stay! We loved the cleanliness and openness of both the inside and outside of the cottage. The owner, Mary, gave great to directions to the place. Unfortunately we couldn't get the fire going. It would have been helpful to have an axe to cut some of the firewood into kindling and some paper to help start the fire. We truly enjoyed our stay though and if the opportunity comes up again, we will be back!! Thank you.

The cottage is exactly as pictured, many updates and some old cottage charm. It has all of the amenities you need - just bring soap and shampoo/conditioner.We had such a wonderful time on the treed property (lots of shade) and deck. The beach is a short walk or a fast drive. The hosts were fantastic and always responded quickly, but we barely needed to reach out as everything was handled so professionally and well. We would definitely stay again!

Everything here was great - the description of the property was bang on. The host Mary answered all my (many) questions and addressed my concerns. Plenty of linens, towels, dishes, etc., so we felt right at home. We brought some things of our own but they were not needed. We used the BBQ while we were there which was nice and we enjoyed a campfire on two nights. The grocery store isn't too far away which was great. We'd absolutely rent this place again.

We had a great long weekend stay at the Wine country cottage! It fit our group, 6 adults, 4 kids (ages 3,5,6,7) perfectly and was better than the pics. I think the add listing said that it's a 1.5 bath, which worried us, but there's actually 2 full and 1 half which we were happy to discover! The yard was perfect for the kids to run around and we were walking distance to restaurants and 2 wineries. Side note: Stay away from CREW, rude staff. North 42 Degrees had a great outdoor area for the kids to run around and occupy themselves, staff was incredible and wine was tasty. Mary was a super responsive host. Our group is already talking about booking again!

A nostalgic, homely residence, with spacious interior, several bedrooms, and local amenities. We stayed for five days in Nov and enjoyed our time here. We had 7 of us, and there was still room for more. The hosts were very accomodating and great to work with. Would recommend to anyone.

Quaint, spacious and oh so comfortable! Beautiful beds and neighborhood was exceptional. One concern….the odour of natural gas near the Bbq is constant. We left the cover off to disperse the gas. What a gem to find! We went with three families, including grandparents. The main floor bedroom and washrooms were a feature we needed and appreciated. Amazing location within walking/biking distance to the beach. Also perfectly situated for day trips around the county. The cottage was quirky and exactly what we needed for 6 adults and 4 children. Lots of space to run around or spread out when kids need space. The washer/dryer got a few runs over the week. Not a lot of storage space for dry food but we managed with coolers and crates. We definitely will come again. Thank you for a great family vacation!

Very close to a nice beach in Colchester and wonderful location to explore Essex county with its many wineries, local distilleries, Point Pelee Nat'l Park and the many pretty, small towns throughout the southwestern Ontario.

We had such a wonderful vacation and it all started with the very warm welcome waiting for us at 112 Klies Beach. Mary & Ian left us welcome gifts and a personal note. The house is spacious and very well equipped. The air conditioning works very well and the beds were comfortable. The outdoor deck and lawn were the center of early morning and late evening gatherings. We had multi generation family in town and kept busy with fishing, swimming, biking and at the town playground. We also enjoyed Garfield’s restaurant, the Cre and Viewpointe wineries and all the small town friendliness. Highly recommend these owners and this charming property.

Ian and Mary went above and beyond as hosts. They were easy to communicate with, gave us many recommendations for things to do in the area, and left us a very generous welcome gift. The house is in the perfect spot to walk to nearby wineries and enjoy the view of Lake Erie. Coincidentally it was also the perfect spot to view some Canada Day fireworks. We had a very comfortable stay and a fun visit!

The house exceeded our expectations especially in terms of cleanliness, kitchen equipments and most importantly it's well decorated interior. The hosts Mary and Ian we're way too kind and generous to offer some complimentary sweets and bottles of wine . They were also amenable and agreed to extend our check out time. They had already sent me useful information about the area few weeks in advance which helped us explore the town. Overall an incredible place with lovely hosts.
