Amager is Copenhagen's green area close to the sea and the airport. It's on an island in Oresund southeast of downotown but is closely connected to the rest of the city by the Metro train. Amager also has its own distinctive atmosphere.
Most local residents don't leave the neighborhood since you can find everything you need around Amagerbrogade, such as supermarkets, stores, restaurants and cafés. The 2 kilometer long beach on the east side of the island, Amager Strandpark, is one of the most popular meeting places for people in Copenhagen when the sun is shining. You can sunbathe here, bathe and grill on warm summer days in the city. Amager is also known for the newly constructed neighborhood Ørestaden, with world-class architecture, international conference facilities and the large shopping mall Field's.
