Good option for before Floating Bungalow Tour

A good hostel to stay in before the floating bungalow trip. Centrally located in Khao Sok with lots of restaurant options at the doorstep. The man working there was very nice and friendly to deal with. Our dorm was very clean and comfortable, including the bathroom, which had a powerful shower with lots of hot water and good shampoo and body wash. We booked the floating bungalow trip through Chillax and we were pretty happy overall with the trip. Chillax organised our transport to Koh Lanta after the trip which was so convenient.

We were the last 2 to get join this dorm, so one of us was left sleeping on a stand alone bed with no curtains, etc for privacy. Didn’t bother us but be aware that this can happen. One of workers on reception was unfriendly and condescending at times. Pool table was covered and surrounded with bags so impossible to use.

We stayed one night at Chillax Hostel. While it was convenient, it was by far the most basic accommodation we had during our trip. The beds were extremely hard, the bathroom had no shower curtain which caused the entire toilet area to flood, and there was a strange smell in the corridor. The dorm beds also didn’t all have privacy curtains, meaning you could directly see other guests sleeping. We also booked our Khao Sok National Park stay directly through the hostel, and unfortunately this part was very disappointing. During the pre-departure briefing, we were told there had been a mistake in our booking. We were “upgraded” to a room with a private bathroom because we were suddenly expected to share our room with two more people. We had no choice but to accept and board the boat. When we arrived at the accommodation in Khao Sok, the staff first told us to take anything we wanted from the small supermarket as an apology *before we even saw the room*. Once we got to the room, we discovered that not only did we **not** receive the promised upgrade (there was no private bathroom), but the room was the smallest one in the entire complex—far too small for four people, with barely enough space for our backpacks. There was only one fan for the whole room, and the night was extremely uncomfortable. We contacted the hotel immediately to explain that this was not what we paid for, but they never replied. The other guests sharing the room told us that they had contacted the hotel and that the operator would meet us at lunch the next day. The next morning, when we returned to the pier, staff who barely spoke English announced—without any discussion—that we would receive THB 500 per person as compensation. Since we were not satisfied with this amount, we decided to take it but still wanted to speak to someone responsible. Once back at the hostel, we asked to speak to the operator, but the receptionist told us she didn’t know who that was.

Arrived to find our room had been given away to others. Luckily another private room was available but not a double room, two single beds instead. Cockroach in the room which wasn’t ideal.

Great value for money

The staff were helpful and friendly, location was great, ease of booking trips and onward transportation was fab! Little cafe with selection of drinks and snacks. We arrived early and bathroom facilities were offered while our room wasn’t yet ready. For what you pay this place is great, we would stay again.

The patio doors in our room didn’t close flush so bugs could get in easily.

Great stay for the Khao Sok national park! The hostel offers trips in which were the best value for money we could find to book your trip with them on arrival. Close to shops and restaurants.

We had a private room in the hostel, but the balcony looked onto what looked like another house, so we didn’t make much use of it. A kettle would have been a great addition. The communal fridge is great but we unfortunately had some milk taken from there that was ours. Great for the national park stay though.

Great stop before going to the National park

The tour you can book through Chillax hostel is very very nice. The hostel in itself as well, with a little cafe where you can get drinks and breakfast. The room was big, as was the bathroom.

This was the most expensive accommodation we had in our 3 weeks in Thailand, yet it was by far the worst. The air conditioning didn’t work, the balcony door wouldn’t shut properly (letting in mosquitos and ants), and we even found ants in the bed. When we raised these issues with staff, they showed no concern or willingness to help. As for the 2-day, 1-night tour, key parts of the itinerary — such as the bamboo rafting and Coral Cave — were cancelled due to elephant migration. We completely understand that this is outside of anyone’s control, but the guides advised us to contact the hostel about compensation. I’ve since messaged them multiple times on both WhatsApp and email; they’ve seen the messages but have not responded at all. Very disappointing would definitely not recommend staying here.

Was okay to stay for the National Park trip, but I would probably stay at another hostel if I was to do it again.

Good value for money, and a good base for the trip to Khao Sok National Park.

Beds were uncomfortable and shower was cold. The TV didn’t work and we also found the staff to be quite rude. They didn’t allow us to leave our bags at the hotel during our trip to Khao Sok, yet there was about 10 bags in the lobby from others who had left theirs. Strange.

We booked the 2 day 1 night tour through them which was a straightforward process and the tour itself was amazing so I would highly recommend doing it through Chillax

Unfortunately we were staying on the basement floor and they have a really bad mould problem in the rooms. The lady on reception moved us which is good but it was just to another basement room with the same problem. Made the stay very uncomfortable but it was only for a night so we put up with it.

Unhelpful staff afraid we expected a free room!

If you want to go to khoa sok national park chillax will organise it for you, collect you from and drop you back to the hostel hassle free.

Having had to change the date of our stay we were told we would have to stay in a dorm instead of the room we originally booked. This didn’t make a difference to us as we were only staying the night with the purpose of doing the khoa sok tour. We were directed to a room where all beds were messed and slept in with people’s stuff on them. As there was nobody in the room we had to ask the girl at the desk to come up and check there were definitely beds free in that room as we did not want to mess with peoples stuff. When she came up she laughed at the state of the room and said she also did not know what/ if any beds were free. She then started moving stuff off two beds which had the least on them and told us to take them beds. We asked were there any other dorms with beds that were definitely not being used or private rooms (which we would pay for) but were told this was all that was available and there was nothing she could do. However we were able to book a private room in the same place on booking.com? quite awkward asking to check in to a room when we were told there was no availability. Clearly did not want us to think we could have the same room for free!

The actual property is okay, very basic rooms but will do for a night. Relatively clean.

Overpriced for private rooms. One of the receptionists was quite rude and unbothered about helping us. We felt bad asking simple questions because her response made it seem like an inconvenience to her. Also given a twin room when requested for a double- which we had to lug our suitcases up and down so many stairs with no help. Additionally trying to contact them via email is very hit and miss. We also booked the 2 day 1 night tour with them and we were not informed that during this season half the things on the leaflet are not actually included, no discounts provided either.

Ideal for our needs before our Khao Sok National Park Tour

we stayed here for one night before our overnight tour to Khao Sok National Park - was ideal for that. Room was comfortable & shared bathroom/shower facilities were clean. WiFi was great, really fast and reliable!

The room smelled a little damp when we first arrived. The smell got better when we had the AC on for a while, so wasn’t a huge issue

The tour guides were lovely.

For the water bungalows - the sleeping, eating and bathroom conditions were horrible. Inside and outside was sparked with large wasps which we couldn’t get out. The bathroom was covered in black mould. The communal dining space felt impossible to eat in a night - I had to pick out insects before every bite. I found the tour was underwhelmed and not was on their social media. Apparently there is two groups - coral and diamond cove. The other tour group apparently had an amazing time - got to see wild elephants and their bungalows were great. Both tours were the same price and it’s lucky of draw which you get.

The hostel itself is a clean, comfortable and budget friendly hostel. not much to do in the khao sok area. we did the national park stay. i enjoyed the kayaking and safari trips on the activity.

on the national park stay we didn't see any wildlife which was just bad luck, i felt the travel time to the floating bungalows took a long time and the rooms were not the most comfortable. good activity to do for the one night.

Disgrace!!! AVOID at all costs

This is the worse hostel ever do not book. They take your money and cancel your night stay even when you specified it was only the national park tour you wanted to cancel. Staff totally unhelpful

DO NOT book here unless you want your money lost & a lot of unnecessary stress. Left us completely stuck for accommodation. We were told check in closes at 8pm when this is specified no where on booking.com, we were basically told tough reception will be closed and you will not be able to check in. I want my refund asap

Great stop

Great for booking Khao Sok national park tours. Arrived the night before and booked for the next day. Lovely staff and very helpful. Able to store big bags at reception when in tour.

Lovely

Staff were so helpful, booked our overnight stay at the lake for us and organised our transfer to Ko Tao! Great location - if you’re coming just for the national park and have some free time before or after, turn right out of the hostel and you’ll find a host of bars restaurants and shops. Really nice atmosphere in the hostel, free cold filtered water, shop a few doors down and cafes on either side of the hostel!
