Restaurant a penzion Pod Draci skalou

Klidná lokalita, parkování, moc dobrá snídaně, ochotní majitelé.

Die Lage war fantastisch. Das Frühstück war einfach aber gut. Ab und an gab es Rührei und Jogurt, immer Früchte und Saft. Es war möglich, sich zum Wandern was mitzunehmen. Zum Abendbrot wurden uns Essen vorgeschlagen, man konnte sich aber auch etwas aus der Karte wählen. Der Chef und sein Sohn haben sich sehr bemüht und uns immer unterstützt. Besonders möchte ich den netten Kellner hervorheben, der uns fast täglich bedient hat

Quiet location, up the hill from main part of town. Breakfast was fine though simple (bread, banana, scrambled egg, coffee, juice). They also provided dinner even though restaurant was closed (Monday). Room decent size and comfortable.

Don't take card, which isn't stated (apparently they can't use the restaurant card machine when it is closed, even though I had dinner in the restaurant building?). Owner said I could pay with CZK/EUR/USD. Didn't have enough CZK/EUR, but did have $100 note, and room was $50. He tried to give me €20 change, which is frankly a rip off. Went to ATM instead (withdrawal fee, but still considerably cheaper - though his conversion of quoted price in EUR to CZK wasn't great either). Whole incident left a sour taste of being taken advantage of.

This is a review of the accommodation, not the restaurant. It was in a quiet, pretty location but extremely hard to find in the night time. Try to avoid getting there after dark. The owner had to come and find us at 9pm after we had been driving around in the dark, unlit, narrow roads for a long time. He is a very nice man, tried his best to make us happy. He cooked us a hot breakfast on the second morning. It was different to what we thought it would be. We stayed for 2 nights and went to Prague on the train one day, then walked to the castle in the afternoon. This was long enough.

If you don’t speak Czech, it’s quite difficult to communicate. Worst of all for us is that there are two towns in Czech Republic called Karlstejn and we had put the wrong one in the GPS, which took us 190kms away, so we were driving another 3 hours trying to find the right one. Select Karlstejn Castle as your destination. Park at the bottom of hill and walk up the pedestrian-only zone to Pod Draci Skalou, then go back and get your car, unless you can speak Czech and can ask for directions on the phone. Unfortunately the bed was so hard that we couldn’t sleep. Bathroom not too good. I don’t like to be so negative because the owner is a nice person, but I wish I’d known all this before I booked.
