Manohara Borobudur Cultural Center

This was a great experience, staying onsite at this historic location. and highly recommended The bungalow with views of Candi Borobudur was fabulous and includes access to the temple site. The staff were super helpful and organised! Breakfast was busy!!

Really should install and espresso machine & barista for breakfast and guests.

The property is in a beautiful location with a calm environment. The surroundings and rooms harmonised with Borobudur. There was some building work going on but it still seemed quiet. It was busy during tour time but the staff looked after us when the breakfast buffet ran low towards the end of the morning. We were given a small complimentary bottle of water in the room and water was available in the restaurant. However, I was charged for an additional bottle of water which was surprising given the cost and intention of the Centre.

It felt a bit too corporate.

We tend to use budget options on our travels, but this was the only property actually within the Borobudur centre, that was the only reason we came here. That said, the level of service was remarkable. Nothing was too much trouble for the hotel staff who were always polite and helpful. The Chalet we were in was big, and the beds were comfortable. Having access to the grounds was great and we could call on a shuttle to get us to the hotel reception if we needed. The restaurant was very good, and the prices were lower than we anticipated.

I think that Indonesian people generally do not understand the concept of walking as recreation the way we do in Europe. We were challenged twice in 100m when walking in the grounds as to why we hadn't got the shuttle service. It felt a bit oppressive for this reason. We had wristbands on which showed we had permission to be in the area we were in and as the second staff member persisted I had to firmly ask her to leave us alone.

The hotel is within the borobudur park itself. The proximity to the attraction is the biggest advantage. The ox tail soup was good. There's a borobudur view from the room.

The rooms on booking.com are on the other side of the park, at the top of a hill, Bukit dagi. It takes roughly 5-10 min for a one-way shuttle ride. Therefore, it's not very convenient. The worst part is that it is super difficult to take Grab or Gojek from the hotel, because it is located within the park and Grab or Gojek do not allow picking up inside the park. It took me more than half an hour to get a car after 3 cancellations. You need to pin the location just outside the security guard post then text the driver or ask the front desk girl to help. Check-in process was also super slow. We were waiting there from 1pm. The receptionist only started the check-in at 1.58pm, and took roughly 15 min. We had to wait for another couple to finish their check in and got to the same shuttle car to go to the room. Don't understand why she couldn't finish the paper work before 2pm and send all of us to the room at 2pm sharp.
