Manohara Borobudur Cultural Center

The hotel accommodation is in a quiet location away from crowds and is beautifully tranquil. My room was very comfortable. Ticket for Borobudur inclusion for guests made it easy to enjoy this very special place.

Nothing to dislike

Direct access to the Temple. Nice environment. Great room/comfortable bed.

The draw card for this property is definitely its location, within grounds of temple and access in and out during day is fabulous. You get a ticket for structure climb each day of stay, you can pay extra for private tour (we did not, group was fine), extra for sunset/sunrise climb. Breakfast was pretty ordinary, but great warungs via gojek, also great coffee with gojek. Room had a lot of mozzies if door open at all, we went and bought plug in mozzie thing form supermarket so we could have door open. Not much touristy shops around, very local area outside of the temple vicinity. Biggest thing we really missed was a pool to cool off in, so much so we cut stay short and found villa elsewhere that did have a pool. Went to dinner at Stupa at Plantaran, which was slightly better than this hotels food. Staff in restaurant super friendly.

A pool it was so hot and dry. I think it could help temple staff if there was a wrist band that identified guests as guests of hotel, got chased a few times going in and out of exit gates and had to show room key to prove we were allowed in and out (language was a bit harder here than say Bali)

We were very disappointed with this hotel. The hotel itself is actually good: it is clean, the beds are comfortable, and there is nothing wrong with the accommodation itself. However, there are several things that were very unclear to us and other guests and are not communicated properly. You are staying inside the Borobudur park, but you only have one hour of access to the temple. This is literally monitored by the minute. You can upgrade to a sunrise ticket, but by Indonesian standards, this is quite expensive for the amount of time you get. For us, it felt like a real money-making machine, with no time or space to simply take in the temple and let it speak to you. This feels deeply ironic when you consider what the temple itself is trying to tell you. In our opinion, the spiritual frequency of this fantastic place has been completely disturbed, or even lost, because of the way this place is managed. The staff were generally friendly, but noticeably more blunt than what we have experienced elsewhere in Indonesia. I suspect this may be because many guests run into the same issues described above and therefore have to significantly adjust their expectations. If you are prepared for this, it is a perfectly fine and clean hotel. Just make sure you know what to expect before booking.
