Really relaxing and just what we needed!

The breakfast was absolutely fantastic as was the resort. Loved our little room where we had direct access to a small lagoon pool. I'd definitely book this room again. There was a musty smell on first entrance to the room, but think maybe due to humidity and improves after a while? All in all really enjoyable.

Couldn't get streaming services on our room TV.

Wonderful hotel surrounded by nature

The hotel is absolutely fantastic. It is enormous but because it is so spread around in the jungle, it doesn't feel overcrowded even when completely full. It's a bit far from Khao Lak but the hotel offers a lot of activities that will easily fill up your time, especially with kids. The breakfast choice was massive as well. From typical European to all kinds of Thai and Asian food. The management also seems to care a lot about environment which showed in everything - from how facilities are run up to available toiletries. One last thing, the pictures of the rooms are real. I expected much worse setup because many places boost up their photos but not here!

The location is a bit far from Khao Lak and Phuket but there is a small street with restaurants and shops pretty much outside the door.

Cheap Option on a hug compound

The Merlin resort is an affordable option in Khao Lak. It is well located in the village so you have easy walking distance to restaurants and shopping. The breakfast was varied and fresh with lots of options. The staff were helpful and spoke good English.

While the hotel served our purpose, it is an enormous compound. We were given a room on a top floor in a corner of the resort next to the garbage and water facility tank so it smelled all the time. We also found that because the resort is so big, it is impersonal and overbuilt on the land it claims to protect.

The Hotel is pleasing on the eye and in a fair location. Wifi was good.

Facilities were very poor. One bar was being upgraded which was not advised before the holiday. Food was fairly poor and over priced. The one bar that was open was awful. Staff were not that helpful.

One of the best resorts I've been to

One of the best resorts we've been to. Everything was perfect and they made it very special for us. The resort was beautiful. It felt like we were in the middle of the rainforest. And the beach was raw and untouched. We saw a lot of wildlife from our room and around the big premises. They had many large pools and lots of space to stroll and relax. You don't need to leave resort. This is one of the few resorts where you see people of all ages. Couples, children, adults, elderly, families etc. The room was superb. It was spacious and comfortable. Their amenities like torch, bathrobes etc were really good and well thought of. When we were in the room it was like we were in a luxurious place on a treehouse. The food was good and a lot of variety. They upgraded us for free and the dinner was either a choice between buffet or ala carte which I have not seen anywhere else. Because we don't eat pork so alot of the buffet we couldn't eat. The staff were really kind and always there for everything. There was a car service through the hotel which was one of the best I've seen. Professional, kind, clean and affordable. The resort kept impressing me. I would've thought it was a five star resort.

The greenery and closeness to the beach, the villa's pool

The staff has very poor English, there was only one restaurant open and the a la cart options were only so so. Also, we stayed in a villa by the end near to the beach, and there was a 24 hour monsoon rain, the water gathered outside our door, so in order to get in and out we had to walk through a pool of water.

Amazing garden, really lovely!

The gardens and pools are so lovely. Room spacious and clean. Breakfast was very good, lots of choices. We enjoyed having a choice of restaurants quick walk out front of resort. Overall very nice stay, would happily recommend.

Only problem was guests smoking on balcony next to our room. Reception staff assured that smoking wasn’t allowed on balconies, but it didn’t stop, and in fact some balconies seemed to have ashtrays on them. The resort policy around smoking was a little vague, with the room information stating that ashtrays were available on balconies.

A wonderful relaxing week in calm environment.

The Hotel is totally integrated into the nature. The old trees on the property are preserved and green lush nature is everywhere. The breakfast is simply the best. Already a great variety every day there are some variances, everything was delicious.

Nice but not enough atmosphere

Beautiful plants and nature. Gorgeous pools.

The main restaurant was closed which was not communicated to us before or upon arrival. The other restaurant had no atmosphere or sea view and was boring. There was no compensation or apology for this.

Great except for the stray cats and Beach rubbish.

Private pool and resort grounds were very good. Great breakfast and friendly staff.

The resort is supposed to be Eco friendly. However stray cats were everywhere(probably hunting and eating the small animals) including in the restaurant. The cats are also a health issue, especially in the dining areas. This aspect needs addressing. Also the beach is part of the experience but no attention is paid to the whole beach in the area which is covered in rubbish. Please employ locals to address this rubbish issue. It detracts from the resort experience. Thankyou

Wonderful stay, stunning resort, but with a caveat!

Loved the spectacular setting, very lush and unobtrusive. Buffet breakfast was delicious too. The pools were amazing. Rooms lovely. Travelled off peak so very good value for money.

Amenities a little dated, but currently being renovated so that's perfect for those visiting next season, but a little noisy for us. Very large hotel that seems to offer 'all inclusive' package tours. Just remember when you book that, all your money goes to one provider and the local community misses out. Lots of the local restaurants etc look.like they struggle so remember to spread the love.

Great grounds with the pools, trees, wildlife and beach frontage

We’ve stayed at a lot of hotels in Thailand and in the really good ones the staff are always smiling, friendly and engaging. At Merlin this wasn’t the case. We went during low season and it was quiet so the staff seemed bored. They’d sit around on their phones rather than be attentive to their guests.

I like the room alot, the villa with the pool infront of the sea was great. Rooms are modern and kept clean

The 2nd restaurant was closed (not mentioned anywhere or told before arriving). The main restaurant didnt have alot of variety during the week and the food I think wasnt as good as the rest of the hotel.

Jungle meets beach. Relaxing sound of waves and animal noise. Nice size room.

Noisy building works in multiple areas started at 8am. Multiple power cuts with all lights coming on at 3am. Uncomfortable hard bed and pillows. Unfriendliest staff from all the Thai hotels we stayed in. Poor breakfast. Whole hotel very tired and dated. Cut short stay and moved to Ramada which is much better.

Secluded pools

Beautiful pools and lovely beach. Buffet breakfast was amazing and location felt like a smaller village rather than Khao Lak central about 10 mins drive up the road. Lots of pools tucked away in other parts of the property were worth exploring. Very peaceful.

The property is huge, so can take a few minutes to walk to the beach or other pools. Need to negotiate a tuk take or taxi to go to the main part of Khao Lak.

Stunning beachside hotel in the jungle

Fantastic resort. This was our second time (the hotel provide big lockers to store cases which we used when we went to Khao Sok national park for 1 night). Great for bird watchers. Good location, service, gardens, beach etc. There are bars, restaurants, shops and laundry services on the hotel doorstep. Also tailors.

The beds - not the comfort - the wooden corners. We both have bruises. We eventually stuck cushions on the corners! The plug sockets were not accessible as they were behind the bed. It is designed for 2 singles which when pushed together mean you cannot access the sockets. These are small things and overall we loved the resort.

An amazing hotel which ticked every box for us and we are planning to return.

The location is lovely. A beautiful beach which is safe to swim from and extensive gardens and pools. The feel of the whole hotel is one of being built in a peaceful location within the jungle. There is lots of room for everyone with wildlife all around. Breakfast was first class and is in a lovely location, overlooking a pool and gardens. The room was clean and really nice and every single member of staff we came across during out stay was friendly and helpful.

Only the price could have been slightly better because there was nothing else to complain about.

Stayed for 3 nights including breakfast for £47 a night for two

Not 5 star but still a fantastic hotel. Staff are brilliant, Reception staff all speak English and were lovely. No probs at check in. Great location on a lovely beach. Massive gardens and pools everywhere. Plenty of sun beds dotted around. The breakfast was fantastic in a beautiful setting. There are a few restaurants and bars just outside the hotel which are great value. The room was a little dark as mentioned in previous reviews but that’s because of the trees and plants which are really nice so it’s worth the sacrifice. The room had a great shower and bath, good aircon, WiFi and they supply beach towels. Top quality toiletries were a nice touch. Great value at £47.00 a night for two including a great breakfast in a stunning location.
