Mawimbi Bungalows

This is a lovely, well-managed hotel where the exceptional service truly stands out. I stayed for 5 nights and found the staff to be wonderful, including the friendly, round-the-clock security team. The owner is hands-on, frequently present around the property, and genuinely eager to ensure that every aspect of the stay is comfortable. With only 7 bungalows on-site, the atmosphere is intimate and the clean pool area is rarely crowded, making it a lovely, tranquil spot to relax. The grounds are natural and beautiful, providing a nice setting for the daily yoga sessions on offer, and the facilities overall are very well-maintained. Housekeeping was consistent, and the breakfast service was high-quality and surprisingly speedy (no 'pole pole' here as can be common in Zanzibar!). The property is also well-prepared for the occasional local power outages with a generator that kicked in immediately and was quiet enough not to disturb the room—it was also notable that it did not run during quiet sleeping hours.

Whilst the property is set back from the road and is mostly a peaceful haven (particularly at night) there can be occasional external noises or rubbish burning during daylight hours. This seems fairly standard for this part of Nungwi from what I experienced and this place was still a quieter hotel experience than others I dined at locally. Also, the music being played in the bar / restaurant was usually at a nice quiet volume and suited the mood, the music at breakfast could be a little loud and energetic dance music for that particular time of day - all personal preference I suppose! The curtains in my bungalow were quite thin and let a lot of light in early morning so would be good to have thicker curtains to keep more light out

Staff, pool and our room were fantastic. Our host was very knowledgeable and even took the time to take us out personally to a beach party All the staff were friendly and helpful The pool was very relaxing Very close to some fantastic restaurants and beaches Our room was very comfortable Our host explained that there are power cuts every day administered by the government. However this didn’t affect our stay at all. Fantastic accommodation! Will definitely be back in the future!

The general breakfast and spread was good; the grilled tomatoes were done beautifully always. The bungalows are well cocooned away from the bustle of the touristy activities and a great retreat at the end of a busy day.We would visit again.

At breakfast the pancakes were surprisingly teeny weeny and unfortunately burned. The showers power could be better especially after a very hot day
