A lovely stay immersed in calm, open countryside and natural beauty.

Place is lovely. Very clean toilets. Our kid loved the outdoor hammock. The landscape is beautiful 💚🪵🌿

The kitchen setup is quite disappointing, especially for longer stays or for groups. It relies on an old log-burning stove both for heating and for cooking, which makes preparing any meal extremely slow and impractical. The hob and oven take ages to get hot, and you constantly have to add logs just to keep it going. Because everything depends on this old stove, cooking becomes nearly impossible when more guests are staying—there’s simply no way for everyone to prepare dinner in a reasonable amount of time. It’s a charming idea in theory, but not functional in reality. If you’re planning to cook for yourself during your stay, be prepared for frustration or consider bringing alternative cooking options.

Cozy!

We had such a lovely stay here! The cabins were spacious, warm and really comfortable. The bathrooms were also super clean. Each cabin and fire pit felt private and quiet.

Hidden gem

What a hidden gem! We would stay here again anytime. We visited in autumn - the view of the valley is spectacular - and the pod was so cosy and warm. The bathrooms exceeded our expectations- spacious, clean and modern. We enjoyed cooking on the fire pit & enjoying the outdoors.

Overrated

Clean and functional facilities that are well laid out. Lots of informative material in ‘the snug’.

No wifi on property. Not much privacy as the pods aren’t spaced enough from each other. You can hear your neighbour. Pods are cramped and get very warm. Incredibly overpriced for what you’re getting.

Beds were uncomfortable Pillows average at best I was the only one in my family that took a shower as I went first and it was warm not hot. Considering it is summer good luck in cooler periods

Really nice and clean accommodation with beautiful views. we had everything we needed and more. amazing shower/ toilet facilities along with the snug which had lots of games and info etc. hosts also very friendly and helpful.

Shepherds hut

Loved the location, so peaceful and quiet. Shower/toilet area was spotless. Loved the Tea shack, where you can use a gas hob to make yourself a hot drink

Nothing i didn't like, place was amazing and such great value for money. Our shepherds hut was lovely, off grid, so no power, but had solar lighting. Bed was comfy and hut was spacious

There was a little tea shack which was absolutely lovely to brew a cuppa in the morning. My expectations were exceeded not only by the fact that each pod had his own fire place and outside seating, but also the pods being close together still gave the feeling of privacy. The bathrooms were very clean and the hosts super lovely. Can only recommend the place

Simplicity at its best!!

Beautiful set up in a stunning location, I could have easily stayed longer here (unfortunately we were only in the area for 1 night). Communication from the host was fab, they were very proactive in ensuring that our group had all the necessary information and more before we arrived. My husband is not a fan of camping, but he came away raving about this place (this is a massive compliment on his part, he’s not easily pleased)! Would highly recommend this place to anyone who is going to be in the area and I would definitely return when I am back there.

Lovely

Beautiful location, lovely to sit out the front of the pod looking out over the trees and green grass. Heaps of walking and sight-seeing to do in the nearby area. Very close to the lovely town of Ballater. Super comfy and cosy cabins and overall everything was extremely clean and tidy.

Water near the snug/food preparation area would have been good. We stayed for three nights and we did get a bit sick of trudging up and down the hill to get water for hot drinks and for food prep purposes.

Quite challenging in terms of foot-fall terrain particularly at night when desperate relief needed!?

Did not participate in breakfast. Views and ambience shared with transient neighbours.

Having to share sanitary accommodation and facilities. The distance and incline of the rough terrain to reach the essential 'elevated' sanitary accommodation..... particularly after dusk!! The time it takes to boil a kettle within the Tea Shack.
