Fab location, plenty of character, easy on budget. And there is a very nice elevator.

My room was a bit tiny! I didn’t like the fact that there were no bottles of either mineral water or filtered water to drink. Since I didn’t want to chance the tap water, I had to boil water in the kettle and let it cool before having any water to drink.

Very quiet neighbourhood but then all the Mumbai madness 2 minutes around the corner - shops, eateries, groceries, bars, traffic honkers! Loved it. Room 18 was massive with a balcony, 4 sofas and 2 giant double beds - all very clean.

Breakfast was only 3 slices of toast with butter and jam, sweet tea/coffee but omelette available on request; the private wet room / toilet and communal fridge was located outside in the corridor; it was a shame we couldn’t pay by card as it was a nuisance taking out 23000 rupees because of ATM limits.

Traditional colonial-style boutique hotel in the heart of Colaba. I was pleasantly surprised—the photos don’t do it justice. We stayed in the annex across the street, which is just as nice if not nicer than the main hotel, also a traditional colonial-style house. Our room was basic but nicely furnished with heavy carved wooden furniture, and French doors opening onto a small terrace overlooking a pretty garden square with trees. As noted in previous reviews, the mattresses are quite firm, but I experienced this often during travels in India, so this may be fairly typical. Breakfast is ordered by phone to reception and served in your room each day: juice, a pot of fresh coffee, plenty of toast and jam, and an omelette to order—simple but fresh and hot. The location is excellent, within walking distance of all main attractions. The main street has a well-known daily/evening market, and there are many restaurants and bars nearby. I highly recommend Koyla, which has a beautiful rooftop with views across to the Taj Hotel and amazing food. I would definitely recommend Bentleys Hotel for its location, traditional colonial style, and friendly service.

Quirky hotel in a great location near Gateway of India.

We found insects on the beds of 2 of the rooms. Hotel and booking.com need to interface better re room numbers. We were 8 people so booking.com made us book 4 rooms - they each had either 2 or 3 double beds so we would only have needed 2! Only 1 of our 4 rooms was en-suite - the rest had a bathroom down the hallway which was open to people entering during the night.
