Chhotaram Prajapat's Homestay

We stayed for three days with Chhotaram and his family. It’s hard to find the right words to describe what a wonderful and amazing time we had with the whole family. “Home is better than a hotel” - that’s how it feels. Their hospitality (they don’t just show hospitality, they live it - all of them), the lovely food (in case you have some dietry restrictions they will seriously take note of that and make sure their is food that you can eat), etc. The houses are very clean and comfortable. We had a full day excursion with Chhoto which was amazing. Driving in the jeep, stopping here and there: a pottery farm (a demonstration and possibility to practice / try yourselves) we visited a Bishnoi family, searched (and found) beautiful wildlife like a gazelle and a group of blackbucks), visited a handcraft manifactury and much more. All very flexible and relax. Definitely recommended. We followed a lovely and amazing 4-hours cooking class by Majamat, the wife of Chhotaram. She was very patience with us and together we prepared 10 different dishes. You can share your own wishes as well, they are open to that. The family is part of the last 45 families that are experts in hand-knotted and hand-woven Panja durries (centuries-old hand weaving tradition). They demonstrate it to you and you can buy a unique piece of it. We felt at home and the family really makes you feel part of them. Definitely recommended if you want an authentic and unique experience of being part of a family in a village (Salawas) 45 minutes away from Jodhpur. The family don’t force you - it’s up to you what you want to do. We would love to come back for a second stay!

We verbleven twee nachten in deze homestay en we hadden het zeer goed naar onze zin. Het was heel boeiend en verrijkend om te zien hoe het dagelijkse leven van een lokaal gezin er uit ziet. De mensen zijn erg vriendelijk, ze bieden je tal van diensten aan zodat je je geen zorgen hoeft te maken. We hebben ook boeiende gesprekken gevoerd over culturele verschillen. Achteraf hebben we een tapijt gekocht als aandenken. Die werd ons aangeboden op een niet opdringerige manier. Op het einde verloren we een kleine rugzak en de uitbaters hebben ons zelf gecontacteerd om die terug te sturen - super!

We hebben niet deelgenomen aan de village safari omdat we die nogal duur vonden. In de plaats daarvan hebben we het Fort bezocht (incl zipline)

The standout was the hospitality of Chhotaramji and his family. But overall it was great - great place, great food. Very different from a regular hotel/homestay. But for someone looking for an authentic experience, this was perfect!
