Lovely traditional English hotel staff friendly but was extremely busy I had 2 dogs it was £20 for 1 it’s £15 good value there was a lovely gardens & river walk just 1 minute walk out of the hotel to take the dogs which was handy
Parking wasn’t handy for my van plus the tunnel to get to the back parking was too narrow & low so I had to park across the road in a free car park which was hard to get a space I had to move my van 3 times Parking out the front was only for 3 hours

The room was comfortable and a better size for a solo traveller than the one with the four poster bed which I had the last time. It was lovely to have a hot shower. I enjoyed breakfasts and also two evening meals. I found the staff very pleasant and helpful. Security seemed good. I thought the bar area very pleasant. Access to Newcastle by train was very easy due to the close proximity of the railway station.
While the hotel was generally fine the stair carpet could do with replacing and mould removed from some of the grouting. At 78 yrs old I would have preferred a walk in shower rather than having to climb into the bath. It would also have been good to have a chair with a back to it.
