Lovely cottage in a great location

We loved Rowan Cottage, it has good facilities and great position in the village and even though my wife had recently had a knee replacement she managed the stairs.

We had difficulty reaching the management company and the washing machine was blocked and with clothes still in it.

Better than expected: we really enjoyed this quirky cottage

We loved this cottage which was in a superb location in the centre of Grasmere village. The parking was 2 minutes walk away, and it was no problem to park outside the front door to drop bags off. This is a quirky character upside down cottage. Having the kitchen and living room upstairs worked perfectly and created a lovely ambience looking down onto the road and people walking by. There is an additional upstairs bathroom which is useful. It is cozy and traditional inside: the bright open spaces are in the countryside and village outdoors. The 3 bedrooms downstairs are all a good size. It was exciting to discover the hidden 3rd bedroom. This house is good value for money and we really enjoyed it.

A very pleasant stay and would definitely return.

Well equipped, in an excellent location.

The smallest of the double bedrooms was very dark through the night, making it very difficult to use the bathroom. Also, the fish washer did not work, which was a bit disappointing after cooking for 6 adults.

Lovely charming cottage in a great location

Lovely cottage in an excellent location right in the centre of Grasmere which is a fantastic base for the Lakes. Everything was very clean and it was well kitted out. The room layout is a bit quirky but this added to the charm.

Great location in a quaint village in a beautiful part of the Lake District

Perfect location for the activities we had planned. Lovely little village We liked that the bedrooms were downstairs so no need to lug heavy suitcases upstairs! Helpful having 2 bathrooms and 2 loos. The owners had left lots of helpful notes/big file, walking sticks and even boots (we didn't need them but I thought it was cute) And the parking permit came in very useful in a couple of carparks in the area!

The second double bedroom was tiny...luckily we didn't have 2 people sharing it but it would be a bit tight if there had been 6of us instead of 5! An airing clothes horse to help dry our wetsuits would have been really helpful.

Cosy place for stay for local walks

Plenty of space for everyone. Clean and tidy. Kitchen well equipment. Plenty of coffee making kit. Good location for walks. Comes with 1 car parking pass. Easy to find.

TV was a little small for the size of the front room. Radio didn’t work in in the kitchen.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend Rowan Cottage.

Well equipped for self catering. Great location for the village, walks, buses. Car park pass saved the worry of finding somewhere at a reasonable rate. Able to stop by Rowan cottage to unload and re-load the car. Lovely view as living area upstairs.

Lounge a bit gloomy at times but that is really due to the style of cottage being old.

Directions did not say use SATNAV from Ambleside as we navigated thin roads from Elterwater. Also Fridges and oven were turned off when we arrived but we didn't realise for over a day. The main plugs need better narrative.

Lovely cottage, great location but needs a deep clean and a fix up.

Great location and good facilities nearby.

Cleanliness of the property wasn’t up to standard-for example we found someone else’s fake nails in the bedroom! We have told the company this but have received no response. The oven door in the property needs fixing as it won’t close properly so takes ages to heat up food. There was mould and dust in lots of places, likely due to a cold winter but it needs a good clean. Lots of mould in shower too.

The smell of stale cooking. The dark and dingy rooms. The dated decor. The smell of grease everywhere. The smell and feel of damp and it was cold downstairs in bedrooms although did manage to bump up heating with instructions and it became warmer and less smellier on the 2nd night. Needs completely re-furbishing. Very disappointed and glad to get out. Standard 2 star.

Great location, we enjoyed the lakes and restaurants but the standard of cleanliness and facilities in cottage didn’t me

Central location in village beds were comfy and white bedding clean

both flushing systems on toilets in need of repair whole cottage in need of freshening up and being given a really good clean, some kitchen units damaged and worn bathroom towel rail broken, generally very tired looking no parking permit left to use due to previous people taking it with them but there was no backup in place to provide another, one was pushed through the door on Saturday which we didn’t receive until we got back to the cottage later that day and too late to make use of by then unpleasant cooking odour/smell in the cottage when we arrived, we bought air freshener and cleaning wipes to try improve the smell the cottage could be made into a lovely place to stay if time is taken to address the above, it’s in a great location but it didn’t meet our expectations and we wouldn’t recommend or rush back to stay at this time unless it improves

Beautiful stay in Grasmere capturing wonderful family memories

Beautiful property!! We loved the views, the kitchen was well equipped and the location was ideal. It was a great layout with 3 kids, enough space to get some rare adult moments of peace!! It was really clean and tidy and the WiFi worked great. Lovely 1st family holiday as a 5!

A tiny thing about an otherwise superb house, but it was difficult to dry towels. If it were possible to just turn one radiator / towel rail on, it would make a massive difference after spending days in the water.
