A disappointing stay at a hotel we used to love, but which is overpriced, overrated and no longer family friendly.
The hotel is conveniently located. The breakfast is excellent. The rooms are clean.
- The hotel has recently changed its policy so that children can no longer use the pool. This change was communicated poorly because, whilst it is clear from the information on the website that the spa is adult only, it is not clear that this includes the pool. The Q&A on booking.com says that there is a swimming pool and there is no reference to it being adult only. Nobody at the hotel is able to explain why the policy has changed or why children can’t use the pool during specific hours. This is a huge inconvenience to families during school holidays as it means that it is impossible for adults to use the spa facilities without leaving their children behind. - The main restaurant in the hotel does not have a child friendly menu. There is an alternative bar restaurant but only serves pizzas after 7pm, so essentially there are very limited dining options for children. This, combined with the absence of a pool, only serves to emphasise that Montana Lodge should really brand itself as an adult only hotel. - Service in both restaurants was slow and unwelcoming. We generally felt like we were inconveniencing staff whenever we asked for anything. There was nothing 5 star about the service that we received. When I arrived at the hotel with my 11 year old daughter, I struggled through the heavy doors alone with multiple bags and nobody at the reception even looked up to assist. - The extractor fan in our bathroom didn’t work and there was no shampoo or conditioner.

The reception staff demonstrated a complete lack of competence: during check-in, they started taking photos of my bank card, including personal information. This is absolutely unacceptable and raises serious concerns about the security of guests’ personal data. When I pointed this out, the reaction was disrespectful, with no apology or explanation. Such practices are unacceptable for a hotel that claims to provide quality service to its guests. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place for accommodation.

A beautiful and comfortable hotel in a good location. Fantastic spread for breakfast. Easy walking distance to the skilift and also a frequent courtesy shuttle bus.
There were only two things that spoilt our stay a little bit. The first was the totally unnecessary music the hotel broadcasts inside and outside making it impossible to relax on the balcony or outside in the spa, and just listen to the nature and stillness of the mountains. The second irritation was the need to book the spa in advance as space was limited. As guests we felt we had paid for the facilities and should be able to access them at all times without having to think ahead when we might want to use them. Part of the attraction of the hotel for a skiing holiday was the Spa. During our visit it was not a issue because hotel was not full but at weeekends and peak holiday times it could be a problem.
