Nice room but needs attention paying to dusty lampshades and banging window.

Appealing Country house
This is hostel style accommodation being charged out at punchy price point for a decent quality hotel , which it isn’t . It was grubby , mouldy , smelt , broken furniture , poorly cleaned and furnished from a car boot sale . I couldn’t leave quickly enough and can’t understand how it is even listed in this condition . It had all the ambience of a doss house .

Everything was great! From the drive up there to tranquility of the place. I can't remember the name of the person who welcomed us (and did everything else from serving at the bar to breakfast) but she was incredible and very welcoming.

Beautiful location aesthetically . . . looks really peaceful and remote . . . but the drunken bar noise is a shock!
Do not stay here if you want to sleep. There is a bar where loud bands are allowed to play which is just below the rooms. Then after the bands stop playing at 11, people congregate at tables below the bedroom windows talking loudly, drunk, shouting. Then there is the lovely piano in reception where drunken people think it's a good idea to try to play (without success) at 2 am. Do not be fooled by the picture of peace and serenity . . . it is far from it.

Ideal location for our stop during a walking holiday
Nothing springs to mind

Beautiful location, stunning building with a lot of original features, set in beautiful grounds. Exceptionally friendly and efficient staff. Nothing is too much trouble. Toni is a one man (female) band, and the young guy was very chatty and pleasant. Very informal. Our bedroom was big and comfortable with lovely views and clean, comfortable bedding and towels. Good cooked breakfast with help yourself tea and coffee. Ideal base for exploring Northumberland.
It's difficult to be negative as there's a certain charm to the hotel and the limited staff are clearly doing their best. However, if you are expecting 3 star hotel experience, this is not for you. To be honest, the price reflects this. Having said that, there is a very comfortable pub just down the road with accommodation that is beautiful for not much extra. The hotel badly needs a deep clean, although the bedroom and the bar itself were clean and the drinks were really good, the bar room is gloomy and smells of smoke. The evening meals are served here and it was not a great experience. It is a barmeal and best, not hotel standard. It could be stunning with a clean up and a bit of decorating. There is a big fireplace that could be a feature, but it is neglected. I'm sure the staff are doing their best, but someone, the landlord or the actual owner, needs to look at it through new eyes. I can see from the reviews that there is live music at the weekend which I'm sure is good fun, particularly if travelling with a few people, but the bar isn't great for a pleasant drink. I would imagine that a full refurbishment is out of the question due to costs, but some simple changes, to the bar room in particular, could make a difference. It's a shame because the hotel has some stunning features and it would be a shame if they lost guests to better quality accommodation in the area.

Staff were amazing, super friendly and helpful. It did feel under staffed for the size of the property, but Toni and team worked their socks off to make me feel at home.
Nice and quiet location.
Fresh coffee at breakfast would have been nice.

Excellent location off the beaten track. An amazing building with some large lovely bedrooms. The restaurant has a good menu and the quality and quantity is very good. The staff cannot be faulted they are very good, polite and very helpful. A great place for a break. Ideal for families with large well kept gardens for children to play.
The driveway does need a little work on the pot holes!!!

The location is superb. The hotel is a great building, but is a little tired and needs quite a lot of investment, as the proprietor freely accepted. The room was spacious, with an attractive view. The staff were friendly people and helpful. Clennell is an excellent base from which to walk or cycle (we did both). Coquetdale is really beautiful and unspoiled, and Clennell Hall is perfectly placed to enable you to explore it.
Breakfast was at best average and could have done with fruit , decent bread and fruit, particularly for those who-like us- do not really like cooked breakfasts. As mentioned above, Clennell Hall is rather faded and tired, but of course one accepts that not many people have the considerable resources needed to restore it to full glory. I really hope that the current proprietors and staff can make a go of things, as they all seem decent people.

Fantastic older residence parts dating back to 1600’s Location, quiet, very rural away from hordes of Tourists, but still close enough to visit attractions. A hidden treasure.
Staff were wonderful
Only minor criticism would be dinner menu options, however breakfast was amazing.

What a strange place! A lovely, old country house, run by a family, who undertake all the roles. We had to go looking for staff sometimes, when needed, but once found very helpful. Very comfortable. Good food at reasonable prices. Fabulous location for walking/cycling (or just enjoying the scenery).
If you can cope with the quirks, this is a lovely hotel

One member of staff was lovely a young lady
The staff were pleasant, We visited last night as a get away after a stressful xmas. We were left to fend for ourselves, never anyone on reception There was a staff member an older gentleman
Sat at the dining table he had been poorly by the looks of it and was falling asleep at a table across from us.
It was abit annoying that both the TV and a music station was playing at the same time.
As we left the bar to go to our room we almost tripped on the stairs due to I think was a staff or the staff members son leaving a bag and another personal item on the stairs, there was also a smell like a foisty smell from the minute I walked in to the reception.
The place was tidy to a degree apart from a section of the bar seemed quite cluttered with paperwork, but didn't seem clean as a professional cleaner myself I noticed this right away.
The food was also not worth £15 we had the cheeseburger and as harsh as this sounds a mcdonalds burger is nicer it tasted dry bland over cooked , i don't mean to sound harsh but it just definitely wasn't worth £117 per night
We left the same night for that reason and another, due to losing my bank card the payment was unable to come out of my bank at first but full payment has been made to the hotel within a few hours we just won't visit again its sad because the location is beautiful

Set in Northumberland National Park the location was idyllic. The approach to the hall was a drive way with sheep grazing either side of it, that followed the river.
Breakfast was good with the use of local products. We stayed for dinner which was very good with a slightly changed choice of meal each night. The bar was very friendly and well stocked!
Could have been a better choice of tea/coffee in bedroom

Good size room comfortable bed and a good cooked breakfast.
Plumbing needs to be looked at and a little more choice at breakfast if you do not fancy a good cooked british breakfast.

Everything !!! The area was so quiet and peaceful, literally the middle of nowhere. House itself was quirky and interesting with its nooks and crannies. Bedroom (room 7) has been kept within the time regarding decor etc. The frieze in the bathroom above the window was original and view to the garden was lovely. Everyone was welcoming, especially Bailey the spaniel ! Food great. Read a lot of people who mentioned the WiFi and phone signal. Who cares in a place like that ! Should be expected. Fabulous time had
I had to go home....
