The Fairway Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

We use the hotel for business purposes and it is always a great stay thank you to the super friendly staff.

I grew up in a surrounding neighborhood, I moved abroad and came back for a holiday and was absolutely mind blown that this gem was in my back yard all this time 5 star experience.

Wonderful place to get away.

The Fairway Hotel has a beautiful setting, spacious rooms and genuinely lovely staff. Everyone I dealt with was friendly, courteous and helpful, and my disappointment is therefore not with the staff, but with the standard of housekeeping and room maintenance. The room itself is attractive and clearly has good underlying design, but it feels as though routine maintenance, deep cleaning and quality-control checks have not kept pace with normal wear and tear. The biggest disappointment was the bathroom. There were hairs in the bath and basin, and I had to clean the bath myself before I could use it. Once I had done so and started running a bath, I discovered that the bath plug did not seal properly at all, so the water simply drained away. One of the two basins was also cracked, and there was brown staining and grime around the plugs and outlet areas. The shower particularly needs attention. There is visible discolouration and grime along the edges, glass and floor area, and the grout and sealant would benefit from a proper deep clean and resealing. There were also several other maintenance issues: the toilet/bathroom sliding door could not be properly secured, the luggage rack was so unstable that I did not feel comfortable placing my suitcase on it, one of the coffee cups was chipped, and some of the dark cabinetry, shutters and work surfaces are visibly worn and scratched. Outside my room, a discarded towel had also been left lying in the garden area and remained there. I reported the faulty bath plug and chipped cup to reception, and the staff were very apologetic and pleasant. None of these issues on their own would necessarily ruin a stay, but together they created the impression of a room that has been allowed to become tired through a lack of routine maintenance and attention to detail. The frustrating part is that the hotel has a lot going for it. The setting is lovely, the room is spacious and the staff are excellent. Most of what disappointed me does not require a major refurbishment — a thorough deep clean, proper maintenance checks, resealing, replacing damaged items and attending to worn finishes would make a significant difference. I hope management takes this constructively, because with better housekeeping and preventative maintenance, this could be a very good hotel.
