Castle Inn

Lovely location. Ying made contact to ensure we could enter the premises on her arrival as she would be away collecting her daughter from school. She was very efficient in producing our breakfasts remembered our previous choices and cooked a delicious Tai meal

Very little. Maybe a greater choice at breakfast to include some fresh croissants and toast other than in the meal although I think Ying wuld have provided the toast with some marmalade etc if we had asked.

Clean and comfortable room. Pleasant wood panelled bar, with excellent German lager. Thai food for dinner was delicious.

Quiet but charming Inn in little hamlet of Knucklas, with straightforward but well laid out and comfortable rooms. Fantastic Thai food and no nice welcome from Ying. We were glad we spent our last night of Offa’s dyke southern walk here as small pub/bar and restaurant are quiet and cosy, and train station is whistle stop and less than 5 minute walk. And a nice stroll to Victorian rail arch viaduct down the street ca. 1862.

Knucklas is only served by 5 or so daily trains on the Heart of Wales line, but it worked out perfectly for us as we caught 5 pm train from Knighton after walking from Kington and took it one stop to Knucklas. Just be sure to tell conductor when you board that you want to stop and alight in Knucklas or put out your arm to flag train if boarding there. There are a few buses and taxis available as well, or you could walk the extra 3.5 miles from Offa’s route on trail over another big hill…we did not.

Mi was a great host who worked very hard but wanted to look after her guests - with her Husband too! Perfect for what we wanted and of a high quality.

Nothing really although being slightly off the Offa's Dyke Trail (why we were staying), there were several conversations with other 'walking guests' as to getting back to Knighton to re-join the trail the following morning. Prior to arrival the afternoon before, we had to wait for over an hour in Knighton for a sporadic train service to go circa 3 miles to Knucklas having walked 15 miles to get to Knighton from Kington. Perhaps an available taxi service or details on ways of getting to Knucklas may have been useful - we could have walked of course!
