This stay was the highlight of our family trip to Greece. Monemvasia was obviously special in and of itself but the accommodations are so unique and charming that we didn't want to leave. We had three 'rooms' and each one is like a mini-house with different floors. The kids obviously LOVED this. One 'room' had a main living room area with an original cistern (wow), stairs down to the luxurious bedroom, and separate stairs up to a separate loft. My teenager did not want to leave. Another 'room' had an amazing upstairs bedroom with desk, stairs down to a little living room and kitchenette, and a couple more steps down to a massive bathroom - again, kids could not be happier, especially since they could hang out on different floors and take a break from one another for a bit. Our room had an enormous bedroom with a quiet patio surrounded by bougainvillea and amazing rooftops/sea view and, again, downstairs kitchenette and living room area with bathroom. There are private patios and shared patios and if you walk outside on the main patio you can look up and see the town and ruins. Ask for directions to the swim area off of the rocks on the castle wall. Thank you for welcoming us and your generosity. We were tucked away in a truly beautiful spot.

We made the mistake of carrying our luggage down - this is so silly for anyone staying in a hotel within the castle. There are porters at the entrance to the castle that you can ask for help or the owner is more than happy to call one for you (we paid 10 euros) on the way out and it was super straighforward!

Sitting on the peaceful terrace overlooking the sea, drinking a bottle of the very nice local wine that the owner had left in the fridge for us was a perfect start to the evening. The very hospitable owner had thought of everything including providing beach towels - there is a great swimming spot just a 2 minute walk away. This was the most unique place we stayed during our time in the Peloponnese - the house has been lovingly and beautifully restored. We stayed in the spacious 2 bedroom flat, which had lots of interesting features including a hamam (which we didn't use in summer!) and a little courtyard. Lovely linens on the bed and a very fancy modern shower!

There was no breakfast but we did have a kitchen and there were cafes just a moments walk away so not really a problem. Would suggest trainers or sensible footwear for walking around Monemvasia- those steep, polished cobble stones can be slippery!
