Just about keeping open

This is a great location for the bird sanctuary. The hotel sadly is struggling.

First rooms we were taken to stank and had rat droppings in them. We were moved to cleaner rooms without too much trouble, but first impressions stick. The location of the hotel is good, but the rooms are all too small and a bit old. My impression was that people don't stay here anymore, because the accommodation isn't good enough. Consequently when we stayed they were very keen to up sell us tours and similar, but having got off to a bad start that wasn't going to happen. To my surprise the breakfast was good. The staff were friendly, but let down by the condition of the hotel.

Birds??

The all- permeating smell of manure, and actual manure on the walkways. One room we booked had a bathroom that had not been cleqned... urine on the toilet seat, and the smell from the dry pea trap adding that little bit of extra stench to make sleep all but impossible in a room where AC had been hoped for(the requested fans not delivered, though promised) and where the anticipated , also- advertised "vegan menu" consisted of lentil soup and cold canned beans. A table set up for us, the only diners and the only visitors, away from the all- male staff who ate their meal as we did ours and did not interface with us except to ask if we wished to take a 3-to 5-hour, paid ( amount not disclosed beforehand) " tour" in isolated marshes ... fortunately my husband got indisposed from the previous night's meal, so we were able to cancel. We didn't wait for the breakfast included in our stay. Also, be extremely careful if using GPS to get to the bird sanctuary, which you can visit without staying in this pension, though they try to convince you otherwise: GPS took us into an agricultural area where the roads were mere mud tracks...and flash floods could make it dangerous. This pension could be a true gem but for the haphazard , all-male style and service. More like a camp than a pension, and do save the shower for when you go to the nearby Cappadocia towns.
