Very impressed with the cleanliness and decor especially the grandeur
From the outside it looks very tired but with the scaffolding that’s being addressed and what a delight when you step inside

Beautiful old building but in need of some serious attention to the rooms
Parking at the hotel provided and its dog friendly so we can travel with our pooch
This beautiful historic building is in very bad need of TLC - such a shame to see its rooms in such a state. However the main lobby looked spectacular in full xmas glory

Classic Hotel Experience
The Duke of Cornwall Hotel offers a warm, elegant atmosphere with beautiful historic details throughout the building. The rooms are comfortable and the staff are welcoming. The only minor issue is that the lift can be quite slow, but overall it’s a very pleasant and memorable stay.
Not enough parking spaces.

Charming Stay in a Classic Hotel
The Duke of Cornwall Hotel has a beautiful, historic atmosphere and a great classic vibe. The building has real character and the staff are friendly. The only downside is the very slow lift, but overall it’s a charming place to stay.
Not enough parking spaces.

Had a lovely long weekend in Plymouth
Comfy, cosy and a good night’s sleep. Good food. Thank you
The outside of the building needs some money spent on it. The iron works name sign above the front door and the crumbling state of the rear walls of the property.

An experience I won’t be doing again disappointing. Staff were so apologetic thank you x
Lovely period Hotel
Paid for upgrade to four poster bed £50 extra per night… TV’s one didn’t work and one was on a portable Ariel and ony gave some channels… The curtain pole fell down from from ceiling striking me on the head, Was asked to move rooms but it was very late at night and had a busy day schedule… Stood on a screw in bare feet left by said curtain pole incident after it had been fixed ? £10 per night parking in hotel carpark . Limited places so we had to pay £16 for street parking for 18 hours at a time … staff were friendly and helpful…

Enjoyable stay, like a step back in time.
It was a beautiful hotel, stepping in the reception it's like stepping back into the 1920s! The bar area is really nice with a good selection of drinks at reasonable prices.
Some areas of the hotel need some tasteful renovation for example the sign outside the hotel was damaged and looked a bit tatty, but with a refurb would look superb. The rooms as well need a bit of a refurb as well, in places then wallpaper was in a bad state. The biggest let down for me was the bathroom that needs a complete renovation.

Nice old hotel, room we stayed in was great, good service.
The size of the room was great. Ladies at reception were very helpful. Bathroom was huge and perfect.
The beds were very hard. Two single beds pushed together that was disappointing.

Fantastic hotel let down by breakfast and the tea/coffee.
Fantastic hotel building with nicely decorated rooms and a really comfortable bed.
The turret room my friend was given was fantastic.
The tea and the coffee in the rooms was horrible. Myself and the friends I met purchased tea/coffee locally for something more normal. The same tea was served at breakfast only with luke warm water. The whole breakfast was served between luke warm and cold.
My room had a big pile of pigeon poo outside the window. This was combined with rubbish (unfortunately from guests). The cause of the poo was poor maintenance with a broken/missing external window (the original single glaze window was still in place) and of course lack of cleaning.
The above moan was such a pity for this beautiful building! You hope they are not going the route of a certain hotel chain and will end up damaging such a beautiful hotel.

Good location and beautiful building
Floor creeks and I can hear it from top room. There was a pipe going trough as well and every time there was a flush it was so loud. For a light sleeper not very good.

Would not stay here again.
Walking distance to the city, good dinner in restaurant. Clean room, bright well-equipped bathroom. Reasonably good value overall, given that it was cheap. Breakfast adequate.
Heating didn’t work. After reporting this to staff three times we got no report as to whether it was being fixed but we did get an extra blanket (after a rather cold first night) and, eventually, a portable heater which worked well.
Reception staff were very friendly but not always available and didn’t follow through (eg we requested that our room be serviced at least twice, and despite their assurances, it wasn’t). We had to ask about three times for some dry towels. Some reception staff didn’t understand English.
When we tried to call reception it went through to an answering machine. Our message was never received and staff confessed that they have no way of retrieving these messages. So although there’s a room service menu, you couldn’t reply on anyone getting your request. We never got the iron we had asked for.
The bathroom door was very difficult to open from inside the bathroom, and required an extra person to give it a good shove from the outside (luckily there were two of us!)
Although breakfast (all buffet) was adequate, the coffee on the second morning was so dire we had to go out and find a coffee shop.
Some furnishings were tired. Bed was not the most comfortable, and the armchairs were tatty.
We dined in on the first night and had a very nice meal, but it took some time to find a member of staff to get the bill, and then it took two of them and some time (as one of them didn’t seem to know where to find the drinks prices even though they were listed on the menu,)

Breakfast was ok, nicely cooked fresh. It was served to us direct on our stay not buffet style. Clare the staff member in the dining room was lovely and friendly. Clean room, comfortable bed.
The evening meal was poor. The roast beef was nice but the Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes were like frozen Aunt Bessie ones not freshly made. The room decor dated with wallpaper coming away from the walls. No shelf in bathroom for toiletries to go on. No grab rail in bath/shower. No suitcase/bag stand. Only one bedside table. The back entrance door from the car park was unlocked with no security measure as far as we could tell so anyone could have got in. The website does make it look grander than it is. We got a good price on booking but I don't think it would have been worth more.

Very disappointing. We stayed here years ago and didn’t expect it to have deteriorated so much.
It looks lovely from the outside.
The staff were pre occupied and not very helpful.
There were no car parking spaces left and despite telling the reception staff I couldn’t walk very far was told the car park was close by. It was not.
The dining room at dinner was freezing the food and the service was poor.
Because I’d got so cold at dinner, I asked for an extra blanket for bed. It took an hour and 20minutes to arrive.

Overall a lovely stay.
The hotel is beautiful, very grand, the kind of place you feel lucky to be. I love how well they'd preserved many original features. It was spotless, the staff were lovely and the bed was extremely comfortable and the shower was surprisingly good. They provided an iron and ironing board upon request and answered any questions I had gladly.
Only small criticisms. I booked a double room and fortunately was travelling alone as it would have been a bit of a squeeze for two people. I did not find any way to adjust the temperature in the room and it was initially much too cold then later in the night much too hot. Small touches also let it down such as the ensuite handle being very stiff and noisy (again, fine as I was alone) and the lid of the toilet seat repeatedly got stuck under the cistern lid, which banged loudly when it un-stuck. The included breakfast offering was extremely poor in my opinion and the road noise (though not the hotel's fault) is much louder than expected.

Good location for an overnight stay to explore Plymouth
Welcoming and helpful staff, lovely big room for us and our dog. Bed was very comfortable and the room and bathroom clean. Great location as less than 10 minute walk to the Hoe and meant we could leave our car in the hotel carpark.

Felt like we were in Faulty Towers
Breakfast was very poor unless you were on a coach tour. Cooked Breakfast - Had to wait for hot trays to be refilled after tours had gone by which time the items that were there were cold. Continental breakfast hardly anything left after coach tours had been in and tea/coffee was either empty or cold.
See above filled in wrong section
We didn’t think any of it was good we had a better standard in Premier Inns

Very pleasant and convenient for Theatre Royal
Very convenient location and lovely characterful property. Our room had a super view to Drakes Island and the sea. Very friendly staff.
Advertised breakfast 9-10.30 Sunday but we arrived around 10 and there wasn’t much hot food available. Staff seemed in a hurry to get rid of us as quickly as possible. No offer to fetch any more food out of kitchen

Old-World Charm… Could Use Modern Comforts
I liked the old vibe of the hotel, it is also in a convenient area of the city and relatively close to the hoe park. I loved the staff, very polite and ready to help.
I stayed in room 404 and feel that it could use some renovations. I understand the hotel may be aiming to create a vintage atmosphere, but a few updates would really improve the experience. For example, adding a small fridge would be very helpful—especially in summer when having cold water is a must. The wallpaper is ripped in some spots and could benefit from a refresh.
Additional improvements that would make the stay more comfortable include a mini safe, better-quality towels (the ones provided had holes), and a more practical shower setup, as the showerhead cannot be picked up.
That said, I did enjoy the overall vibe of the hotel—it has character—but I think it may not be the right fit for me.

Appalling Room.
Nothing
The room was not fit to be occupied. We were given room 414.
On entering the room, it was immediately clear that the room was not fit for anyone to sleep in.The first thing we noticed was the overpowering odour of stale sweat, damp and mould. I went straight to the sash window to open it to discover that the window pane was dirty with pigeon droppings. The window sill was smothered with pigeon droppings and 3 pigeons quickly arrived at the entrance to the window to get some attention. This is an environmental health issue in itself.
The carpet was badly faded and damaged, as were the walls and ceilings. The extractor fan in the bathroom sounded like an old tractor. The entire room was unfit to be used.
I was particularly concerned as my 72 year old husband uses a CPAP machine while sleeping to aid his breathing. There is a great risk from breathing in dust and water droplets from pigeon droppings for anyone let alone someone vulnerable. When we spoke to the receptionist, she apologised but nothing more. She said there were no other rooms as they were fully booked. We left immediately and went to the Moxy where we passed a very comfortable night. We have regularly stayed at the Duke of Cornwall over the past 11 years but we will not be staying there again. I strongly advise other potential customers not to book.

Lovely and relaxed stay in beautiful Plymouth Hoe
The staff were amazing , the room size was perfect and the warm welcome our little Dog received was heart warming.
The bedroom windows were only able to open approx 3inches, so the flow of fresh air was not great.. they need to correct this or put a fan in room for people who need to feel less stuffy.
