DoubleTree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit

Had a wonderful experience at this hotel, everything was absolutely perfect from start to finish. The room is completely soundproof which allowed me to get some of the best, most undisturbed sleep I've had in a long time. It was incredibly peaceful. The room was very spacious. There was more than enough room to relax and unpack comfortably without feeling cramped. The room also smelled good. A special thanks to Ms. Mameaw. Her communication skills are exceptional, and she was incredibly understanding, professional, and welcoming throughout my stay.

The food is very good. The only thing is they only have a little tiny little bar right by the elevator, which kind of sucks but everything else is perfect. I stay here every time now.

Good hotel with pleasant staff, but an odd location and limited atmosphere I stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit in a Premier King room. Overall, it is a good hotel with friendly staff, a large room and a comfortable stay, but I probably would not make it my first choice again given the number of four-star hotels in Bangkok at a similar price point. The location is central in a broad sense, but awkward in practice. The hotel is on Sukhumvit Soi 2, roughly between Phloen Chit and Nana BTS stations, but not especially close to either. Soi 2 itself is quiet and does not have the usual Bangkok conveniences directly outside, such as a 7-Eleven, cheap laundry or casual local eateries. At the Sukhumvit Road end there is Phloen Chit Center, with a Boots pharmacy, McDonald’s, Starbucks and some massage/barber options, but it is still a short walk away. Sukhumvit Soi 4, with bars, convenience stores, massage shops and food options, is only one street over, but access is oddly inconsistent. Whether you can cut through the hotel driveways and alleyways between Soi 2 and Soi 4 seems to depend on the whim and whimsy of the security guards controlling the boom gates. Sometimes you can wander through, and sometimes you are redirected. Otherwise, you need to walk up to Sukhumvit Road and then back down Soi 4, making the hotel less convenient than it appears on a map. The hotel itself is pleasant but does not have much of a “destination hotel” feel. There is a lobby bar and one main restaurant, but no rooftop bar, upper-level restaurant, memorable outdoor dining area or social space with views. The pool and fitness centre are on level 7. The gym looked modern, although I did not use it, and the pool area was fine, but there was no real bar or resort-style atmosphere there. My Premier King room was very spacious, with a sofa, desk, stocked minibar, in-room safe, shower and separate large bathtub. I was only on the 8th floor overlooking the swimming pool, but the room was very quiet. I also appreciated the warm DoubleTree cookie on arrival. The room size was a definite positive, but the room itself was extremely generic. Nothing about the design, colours, furniture, artwork or finishes gave any real sense of being in Bangkok or Thailand. It felt as though it could have been almost anywhere. The room also had no balcony, and the windows could not be opened, so during some pleasant stormy evenings and sunsets it felt very sealed off from the outside. The layout could have been better. The sofa was by the window, quite far from the TV, and the TV felt too small for the room. It lacked useful smart TV features for iPhone users, such as easy casting or access to personal YouTube/Netflix accounts. The TV also did not work when I arrived, although a technician came and replaced a cable, after which it worked. Service was one of the stronger points. The check-in staff were friendly, the concierge was proactive and helpful, and the lobby bar staff were pleasant and professional. Also, if you are offered popcorn at the bar, definitely say yes. It was genuinely excellent. Overall, this is a comfortable and generally well-run hotel with good staff, large quiet rooms and a few nice touches. However, the location is not quite as convenient as it first appears, the hotel lacks atmosphere compared with some other Bangkok options, and the facilities feel limited for both leisure and business travellers. A good hotel, but not one I would go out of my way to stay at again unless the price was particularly attractive.

For that price need a smart TV in the room.
