About this house rental

Over 300 acres to explore including a private lake, a spring fed goldfish pond high in the hills, and beautiful views everywhere you turn. This is the perfect place for vacationing families. You can hike, swim, fish (catch and release), or kayak on a private lake on the property. The lake was formed by damming up a spring fed creek, therefore the water is cool year round. There are 2 fire pits and a barbeque pit on the property for your enjoyment. Get away from it all, with the option of staying connected through fiber internet. There are 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and a fully functional kitchen. Madrone Hills Ranch is 4 miles from Lost Maples State Park, about 16 miles away from the Frio River in Leakey, and about a 35 minute drive from Garner State Park. We enjoy meeting our guests and make an effort to greet all guests upon arrival. We look forward to your stay.

We had such an AMAZING time at the property! Catch & Release Fishing was perfect! Veronica was such a wonderful host. We even stayed an extra day because we didn’t want to leave! Thank you very much! Can’t wait to go back!

If you want to escape from the city. This is the place. Our family came in April for the eclipse. There were crowds in every major city but we didn't see a soul. The property is very large with lots of space to hike. There is a lake behind the property for swimming and short kayak trips. Lots of outdoor things to do in the immediate area. I strongly recommend lost maples state park. Be aware, there is not a huge selection of restaurants or grocery stores. We stocked up on everything our group needed for 5 days in San Antonio. The house is very large. Our group was seven and we had plenty of room. The pool table was a big hit with the boys. Veronica is very attentive and responsive. It was one of our son's birthdays and she surprised us with ingredients to bake a cake! We had a great time in the evenings grilling outside. Absolutely recommended if our tired of the city.

We absolutely loved staying at this property. It was rustic, but, very well appointed. Plenty of beds for everyone. The pool table was a hit. And the lake….was SO perfect. Kids could fish, kayak, canoe or swim. We had s’mores on the fire pit down by the lake. It was an awesome week and would definitely come back here again.

Our family loved our time here!! The house was clean and ready for us. The very short walk to the lake was a highlight. We enjoyed the canoes too!! Another highlight was the number of birds around the house! There were nests and singing birds everywhere. The pool table was enjoyed as well!

We had a lovely time at the Madrone Hills Ranch. The spring-fed lake was divine, the ranch house was spacious, and the scenery was beautiful. We went to Lost Maples, Garner State Park, and a couple of swimming spots on the Frio. Great location for all three. I definitely recommend this property for a family friendly ranch vacation. Kayaks and pool table were fun for the kids. Veronica was a pleasure to work with.

This is a beautiful house on a huge ranch. We spent the July 4th weekend here and didn’t really feel the need to get out. We hiked, jumped in the lake, kayaked, played pool and laughed a lot..all within the property.

Beautiful location. Spacious yet cozy home with lovely views and private totally clear lake. Hung out, kayaker, walked across the many acres of trails on the land. Perfect place. Property owners were so welcoming and helpful. They met us on arrival and pointed out all the good walks and left us alone for our 4 beautiful days! Highly recommend this special place!

Veronica made the process very easy. We had two adults a college student and four teenagers and everyone wants to go back. More than enough room for our group. The house was clean and had everything we needed. Lost Maples is right up the road for hiking or stay on the ranch and explore. We spent half a day hiking the surrounding hills. The little lake is very peaceful. To cold to swim in December but still got out in kayaks. This place is incredibly peaceful and quiet. Wouldn’t hesitate to turn around and go right back.

Thank you for allowing my family and me (my husband & I, and our 5 children who are in middle-school, high school and college) to use your ranch house and ranch for our annual family vacation. Because of the pandemic, we decided to stay closer to home in Texas and not travel out-of-state. We were worried that our vacation would be hot and boring. NOT SO! We had such a fun time and grew closer as a family with all the activities. The house is beautifully decorated and so comfortable...and the pool table was a bonus. We really enjoyed the lake...so beautiful and peaceful and we had it all to ourselves! We had a blast canoeing, kayaking, swimming and fishing as well as just sitting by the water relaxing. We went on several hikes too-the house is in the heart of the hill country surrounded by beautiful, tall hills and pasture land. Our evenings were filled with fun and laughter cooking in the large kitchen, roasting marshmallows over the outdoor fire pit and star-gazing. Many, many thanks for sharing your place and allowing us to use the life jackets and boats, fire pit and all the house. This is going down as a very memorable, fun and special vacation for us. We hope you keep the ranch on VRBO for we definitely hope to return.

This is a beautiful property that is advertised accurately with listed pictures. We enjoyed fishing and kayaking in the pond. Veronica is wonderful and very attentive to all needs. Small grocery stores are about 10-15 miles away. We enjoyed our float down the Frio River even though level was low. If you are looking to get away from it all and enjoy peace and quite this is the property for you.

Great space and host. Loved the big rooms. The kitchen was well supplied. The cat lovers enjoyed visits from a very friendly cat named Connor. The fishermen enjoyed catching bass in the lake. The pool table got lots of use. Fun time for all.

Amazing week on a beautiful piece of property. The lake was clear and a cool temp which made for relaxing days floating on inner tubes or kayaking. The rolling hills surrounding the property made for beautiful sunrise sand sunsets. We were 3 families traveling with 6 teenagers. All 6 rated this vacay a 5/5 and asked when would we be returning. Very spacious house with all the amenities you could need. Ms Veronica is wonderful and was quick to respond to our pre-arrival questions and communicated with us during our stay. Great location for a vacay during this Covid pandemic.

My husband and I wanted a quiet getaway for the Thanksgiving break. We invited our in-laws and another couple and their son to join us (and our 4 kids). The ranch house was more than enough space for all of us. The house was extremely clean, comfortable, and had all of the amenities needed to enjoy our Thanksgiving vacation. We never left the property other than going to the corner store for some milk and graham crackers for more S’mores! We spent our time fishing, kayaking on the beautiful lake, hiking around the property, finding the goldfish pond, playing pool, and sitting outside underneath the stars roasting marshmallows. We could not have asked for a more peaceful getaway. For the fisherman reading the review, we caught plenty of beautiful bass, catfish, and blue gill (all catch and release) As an added plus for those who can’t completely unplug, the property has WiFi and Netflix, YouTube Channel, and Prime Video. The kids enjoyed watching Netflix in the evenings and the guys enjoyed being able to watch football! And. I enjoyed being able to upload all of my photos of the beautiful Hill Country in the Fall every evening. Finally, Veronica was a very gracious host. She was helpful, kind, and responsive in a very timely manner to all of my questions as we prepared for our trip. We highly recommend this ranch house for a beautiful, clean, secluded, and peaceful Hill Country Texas getaway!

The site pictures are right on, and the ranch location is both easy to reach and totally isolated from the busy rest of the world. Eight of us stayed for the whole weekend, spending time fishing in the lake, kayaking up and down and floating around in the supplied rubber rings. There were trails to walk and masses of space to wander aimlessly. Everyone enjoyed every minute of the day and in the evening the fire pit and bbq kept us all fed and chatting together in to the late hours. Cannot recommend this rental enough for those looking for a simple but quality location. Everything you need to wind down and escape.
