I booked here, despite some negative reviews, as the Takayama festival increased the prices in the area by more than I was willing to pay, and this place happened to be the cheapest one. However I actually really liked the atmosphere inside as the place had a real 90s feel, like a place out of time. There is a large social area with many seats and many people utilised this which made for a great opportunity to meet and talk with other travellers. I admittedly didn’t look into this place much as I was urgently needing a place to stay so I just booked it, but I was surprised to see that I was sleeping on a floor mattress in a room with twelve other people. It was a lot better than I thought though, as everyone was very quiet and kept to themselves. I was happy to be in the female room as in the mixed one I could hear a lot of snoring and coughing. They also offer a free shuttle bus, which I didn’t realise until it was too late, but it’s a really nice feature that I’ve not seen at any hostel I’ve stayed at before.

It was a struggle to find a plug to charge my phone as there were only a few in the room and they were all in use. In the main seating area there were very few as well. Also there wasn’t any shower cubicles, only a public shower or the bath. This is probably more of an issue on my part though as a westerner not used to that style of bathing.
