Outstanding experience! Such a lovely stay. Excellent welcoming service. The room, common areas, and property are gorgeous. Very much a palace experience. Their pride of the property shines through. We highly recommend. We felt like we were a prince and a princess in a palace. Everything exceeded our expectations at Casa Manuel Espregueira. Even the breakfast was a real delight, from fresh fruit to even cooked to order eggs, and beautifully presented with the option to be served in the courtyard, dining room or in the sunroom. The room and bathroom were beautifully decorated with antiques yet very modern with an excellent shower. It was much larger than typically found and plenty of windows to allow the sunlight in. The location is very easy to access via the train and on a nice narrow main, possibly pedestrian only street, with shops, restaurants and people watching. The restaurant they recommended was very good, be sure to make reservations. We planned our visit around a fun charming annual festival in August that we fully enjoyed. We had the chance to meet a colleague of the owners of the property who is a gifted artist. If you get a chance check out his work. Note there are stairs, like in Gone with the Wind, but not a problem as they are at the ready to help.

I had no idea what I was booking when I had to find a hotel for one night lastminute while in Viana do Castelo. Had I known what a gem this place was, I would have stayed here for the full time that I was in town. It was beautiful, historic, and run by a team that you can tell really, really cares about hospitality. Everyone I met was lovely. The room was comfortable, quiet, clean and spacious, the breakfast was perfect, and the gardens were a lovely treat. My only regret is that I couldn't stay longer to soak in the spirit of this place. If I have the luck of passing by Viana do Castelo again, this is where I will stay.

Everything, the rooms are beautiful, the history of the house , the detail of the restoration, the attention to details, the owner is very knowledgeable and present, would love to stay there again for a longer period

the style of the property and the personal attention of the owner. the historic nature of the decor. the garden is lovely. the hotel is close to, but not in the historic centre of the town.
the rooms smell musty and the towels were not freshly laundered. coffee and tea facilities were not in the room but in a common area downstairs. the en-suite was a “box” installed in a period room that really wasn’t in keeping with the era of the property.
