Logis Hôtel Château De Palaja

Our 2 bedroom family suite was exceptionally comfortable and well laid out. The air conditioning was very efficient. The room featured shutters, which made it dark for sleeping. Spacious bathroom; double sinks, bath and shower. Quiet situation, with secure car parking. Delicious breakfast with many options. Lovely swimming pool, with loungers; a short walk from the main accommodation. Seating in the garden (you could have breakfast outside).

Pool changing room needs attention….toilet not working properly.

We came for four nights in early August as a family of four driving in from the Costa Brava, and the hotel turned out to be the best decision of the trip. Palaja is quiet in the way you hope a village will be quiet, and the château sits just far enough outside Carcassonne to make coming back at the end of a long day feel like coming back rather than merely returning. What set the stay apart was the staff. We arrived on Monday afternoon with no intention of stopping for a meal on the road, and the kitchen put together a spread of plates in the garden — charcuterie and cheese boards, melon et jambon, tomate-mozzarella, a vegetable plate — which became dinner and one of the best meals of the week. They booked S Comme for us on Wednesday without our having to lift a finger. Cathy's recommendations shaped much of the trip. Not one of them missed. That's not concierge service; that's someone who knows and loves where she lives. The location is an ideal base. Minerve, Lagrasse, Montolieu, Cabrespine, and the Cité itself are all comfortable day trips, with none of the narrow mountain switchbacks I'd been warned about. On our last night we ate in the dining room — the same plates that had welcomed us — which felt like the right way to close.

Not a single thing worth naming. If pressed, our only regret is our own French, which we intend to have in far better shape when we return next year.

The bucolic atmosphere, the pleasant pool, and the breakfast with a good selection of quality products. The room was fairly comfortable and the large shower was a nice touch.

The owner was unfriendly both at check-in and during check-out, which took away from the charm of the place. The check-in hours were also very rigid (from 4.00 pm to 11.00 pm), and this was communicated before our arrival through an extremely long email in French, where the important details were hard to spot due to a lengthy list of unnecessary driving directions.
