We’ve stayed here a lot and this time there was a distinct smell in the lobby - I think it’s the big mat/carpet. It really needs addressing. Thankfully the rooms are all good.

Great stay for the family.

Close to town, living area in the middle.

Parking. Would be good to make it really clear in the listing that there is no parking and that only option is Wilson car park paid parking. A clothes horse for drying clothes inside would also be a great addition.

disappointing that management did not advised that the pool would not be working before we got there

No staff at checkin when we arrived -waited 20 mins till someone arrived. Pool not working 2nd visit in a row. No disabled parking out front (removed since previous visit). All looking a bit shabby. Only 1 chair in the room.

Location was close to beach and restaurants. The gym was good.

We arrived to be advised the pool was closed. This was the main reason we chose this hotel. It had been closed for over 2 months so why were we not notified. Rooms are dated, at least two power pints didn’t work and the oven worked but only on super hot. Nice to have a dish washer but with very limited crockery (2 plates and cutlery only) you would wonder why.

The location

The pool was out of order, which is why we had booked. The spa pool was still available but then it wasn't heating so had to go to reception to let them know, wanted to enjoy a last dip before we left the next day.

Unfortunately The Spencer Hotel is showing its age. Room had a musty damp aroma solved by airing out and using a light deodorizer. Sprinkler head in bedroom leaked water onto the bed.

I liked that the air con was working and kept the room at a nice temperature.

The green bedspreads were dirty. It was like there were food smudges on them. There was mould around the edges of the bathroom door. The car park I had requested on the booking.com site was not acknowledged, nor was the request for dairy-free milk.

This accomodation is quite run down and needing the biggest upgrade. Our wifi service was poor, pool was not available for use which I wish we knew otherwise we would not have booked. Room service phone didn't work at all. Kitchen area/equipment was very below average. Coffee area in the reception was very unhygienic - everything old and not working.

Aircon didn’t work and although a fan was provided it really didn’t help at all. Couldn’t sleep all night. Housekeeping did not come through once

The bait and switch tactic was in poor taste. The hotel is responsible for the rooms listed.

The room was clean and comfortable.

Room listed by the property as “Studio with Balcony”, however when checking in the staff informed me that there was no such room, “only our suites have balconies”. When pressed I was advised an additional $81 would be needed to secure the room amenities I had booked. When a room is sold with something specific included like listing a room with the title “…Studio with Balcony…” they should be careful to ensure that the facility is in fact real. Furthermore, if the listing was in error I would expect the hotel to cover the shortfall for their mistake, not bill an additional $81.

Satisfactory for a nights stay.

Location very good for our needs. Very quiet, was a bit worried as our room was right opposite the lifts but we never heard any noise. Clean. Friendly staff.

A bit tired and tatty, could do with a bit of upgrading. Cost of car parking - could have parked in street but didn’t want to trust that as we had a hire car, would have been some cost parking in street too.

I really enjoyed the room and it was convenient for what I needed. There was great food available all around the hotel. And this is one of the only hotels I’ve seen that provides drinking chocolate with the teas and coffee options, which honestly was so thoughtful cause I am not a tree or coffee drinker. Just wish I had more time to explore the amenities

Very run down cracked and chipped tiles and paint . Mold in shower , toilet and tiles . Stayed there Monday - Thursday not services once or given clean towels

It was a beautiful building. I absolutely adored the entrance with the amazing bookshelves. The room was so comfortable and clean. Loved the area. Beautiful cafes, beach, restaurants. Highly recommend and I had an amazing view across water.

Location is excellent. Handy for Takapuna. Rooms a little worn. Paint scuffs, chipped tiles. Just showing a bit of wear and tear. Surprised hotel didnt offer breakfast on site. However breakfast at organic place close by was excellent

Receptionist attempted to charge me $30 for parking. One reason I chose hotel wwas that it had parking. No mention on web site about a parking charge. Anyway, wasn't charged but I didn't appreciate the attempt to charge.
