Angelos Design Suites

Everything! I stayed in a different room initially (see my previous review) and then extended my stay as I loved it here so much. Both rooms were fantastic and uniquely designed. In between my two stays at Angelos’ Design Suites I stayed at a very expensive property in Old Town. Before coming to Alonissos I had spent a long time deliberating over whether I wanted a property with a pool or not - so I booked three nights without a pool at Angelos (who is based a two minute walk from the port) and two nights at a property in Old Town with a pool (followed by a further one night with Angelos). One thing to flag in relation to this is that if you are not renting a car on the island, the public bus service takes you to a particular beach each day, making the need for a pool redundant. Presumably you’re visiting Alonissos to see Alonissos, and the beaches are breathtakingly gorgeous. For that reason, staying in Old Town is a massive disadvantage because the public bus leaves the port area at 10:15am each day to go to a particular beach (returning around 4pm), and the first public bus from Old Town would not get you to the beach bus from the port in time (meaning you have to pay €10 to get a taxi down). Equally, all of the main activities (boat trips, scuba diving etc) leave from the port, meaning that Angelos’ Design Suites are perfectly located to get to all of them. Given that the island is small (and having spent 6 nights there, I would say 4-5 nights is probably perfect), I would use that time to stay by the port with easy access to the beach bus and all the amazing activities that the island has to offer. I went to Alonissos specifically to relax and I found laying on a sunbed next to crystal clear water and surrounded by lush green pine trees to be far more relaxing than laid around a pool, if I’m honest (I have uploaded photos of the beaches to let you be the judge of that).

Honestly I spent a long time deliberating over accommodation because the purpose of my trip specifically was that I wanted a really relaxing break “away from it all” so I thought the accommodation I chose was really important. Save yourself the time I spent scrolling through endless reviews on endless properties and book Angelos’ Design Suites - seriously, I promise you with 100% confidence that you will not regret it. I am a stickler for detail. If there is a stray hair, or a bit of dirt, or something out of place, I notice it. Of all the hotels I’ve travelled to, including top hotels in South America, Asia and Europe, I genuinely don’t think I have stayed anywhere with this level of attention to detail. It’s honestly unbelievable. Everything is spotlessly clean, there is absolutely everything you could ever want - and more (hair straighteners, iron, ear plugs, even a little lavender bag to help you to sleep), a full PDF guide on Alonissos and the best things to do/where to eat etc, and lots of little kind and thoughtful extras during your stay. The views from the balcony are stunning and I really enjoyed sitting and reading a book there until sunset after a day at the beach. Angelos’ Design Suites should be a lesson to others in the true meaning of hospitality, and of giving guests what they want during a trip abroad. Angelos really cares about his guests and wants them to have a good time - his gestures are authentically kind, not gimmicky or performative. The price to quality ratio is also excellent - you get a lot for your money. Angelos even takes the time to pick you up from the ferry and make sure you feel settled.

This is a great place to stay! Angelos is the perfect host, he kindly met us at the port to take our bags and communicated frequently via WhatsApp. We stayed in a gorgeous suite with balcony and sea views, upgraded due to the off season, and it really has everything you need - lots of little touches! We really appreciated his advice to see the island.
