Shimoda View Hotel

What a wonderful getaway from Tokyo. There was a shuttle bus from the train station to the hotel, and my room was to die for! Absolutely beautiful room with its own outdoor hot springs bath on the balcony with a beautiful view, I spent a lot of time in that bath! The futon bed was very comfortable (although I doubled up on the mattress to be honest) and it was a proper western style memory foam pillow, not a hard "bean pillow" like often found at Ryokan hotels. I also went down to the bathhouse and enjoyed a soak there, and it was excellent. The staff were wonderful, nothing was too much trouble for them.

My only disappointment was the food. I expected a buffet for breakfast so that was fine, but the photos on the hotel listing suggested the included dinner would be a Kaiseki style dinner served to the table, however that was not the case. Dinner was also a buffet, admittedly it was a very varied buffet, and included Shabu Shabu at the table, so it was delicious...but it wasn't what I was expecting from the photos here. So please be aware of that.
