Purple Studio

Our hosts wet great! We had a lovely welcome from Helena who, in addition to kindly introducing us to lovely gardens with beautiful views, treated us with a homemade Easter cake, biscuits and wine. Martin had been a constant help with numerous suggestions on how to enjoy Madeira, despite the weather. We loved the gardens, with avocado, mango and banana trees, and breathtaking views from ‘our secret spot of the garden’ which Helena introduced us to. It was quiet, clean and close to city centre, although keep in mind that the way back from the city centre seems longer if you are walking, because you will need to walk up the hill.

A beautiful old hotel, which has been restored with love and care, to its formal glory. We loved it. The location is close to the town. Take good shoes, as the whole geography is very hilly. The family were fantastic hosts, very interesting, caring and kind. We felt very secure and comfortable. We highly recommend, and will return, as we enjoyed it so much.

A fabulous studio suite, great kitchen with a lot of thought, Helene and Roberto have done a marvelous restoration on a beautiful old manor with an incredible view, a lovely garden, and huge history! Martine their manager was wonderful! organizing a trip to the northwest that we weren't able to navigate online. In Funchal, the roads are steep, narrow and often one-way, but it's a beautiful walk downhill, maybe 15 min. (if you stop at the antique shop, maybe longer) and taxis are abundant in Funchal and inexpensive. The gardens are beautiful, the mosaic pathways exquisite, and the pool a treat!!
