This was clearly once someones stunning house in Camps Bay, unfortunately it really shouldn't be considered a hotel now. The staff were friendly, the turn down service was nice and the view is wonderful.
We expected a lot more. Firstly the photos are really misleading, there is no nice sofa in the main guest area, there are no bean bags any more outside, it feels like you've arrived on the back of someones super yacht with all the Riva aquamarine furniture. There's no real reception so our arrival was a bit awkward, we had to head round the house looking for someone (we were 30 minutes early, but still). Then because our room wasn't ready we wanted to relax, but all the sunbeds had been packed away because of a very small amount of wind, there's no bean bags, no where comfy to sit, it's all very very awkward.
We were in the garden suite, the room and patio area is nice, unfortunately the view is now largely obscured by a crane. One of the sunbeds in our patio had some questionable looking stains on it and are looking a bit tired. There was also no still water in the room for our whole stay. We utilised the champagne glasses and upon cleaning the next day they were left dirty still in our room.
Feeling rather disappointed, I messaged the contact number who advised they'd come back to me with a price for an upgrade, they never did. Not the best level of service to be honest.
Breakfast was tasty enough, but you had to tick what you wanted on a piece of paper (never had this before) and quality-wise, considering you're paying £300+ per night, the food felt like it was picked up from the local pick n pay. I had one croissant (with no jam) and then yogurt in a plastic pot, I mean really!? You're also seated (not outside with the view), but inside where this is a strangely positioned jewellery cabinet.
I can see how you can enjoy a stay here, the views are stunning, but for me this is just an Instagram friendly place, in reality it feels horribly awkward, like you're an unwanted guest of sorts in someone's house come boat. This is not a 5-star hotel at all.

Great location in camps bay
Lovely view of the bay/ocean
Manager was very happy to help with any request
East parking
Good bar selection and complimentary snacks
Held onto our bags pre check in
We stayed in the garden suite and the bathroom smelt damp for our whole stay and a leaky shower
Whilst there was a wide variety of breakfast options the service wasn’t great/thing’s forgotten and didn’t feel as smooth as I would expect
Small bed compared to other places we have stayed, would expect a 6ft+ bed for the price

EVERYTHING!! There is nothing you cannot love.
I stayed at the property for one night- a reward to self after after a long work trip to Stellenbosch. From the moment I arrived everything was like coming home: the place feels luxurious yet homely. The staff take time to learn the residents names and it is like being with your home community. My room was the pink room- perfect for a solo female traveler- and with the most complimentary chocolate I ever got!
The best part for me was a moment of fate- the owner was around for the weekend and I got complimentary champagne as we watched the sun set. I don’t know how people describe luxury but for me it’s the warmth in the people and the attention to detail. Living Hotel Lion’s Eye is all that and more.
Zero.

Nice to see the friendly staff members we still knew from last time.
We checked out after one night and lost a lot of money for the sake of just being out. Since our last time there in 03/2022 it has become so run down, the beds are horribly worn down (sinkholes!) that I slept in the window sill, the whole interior is having all traits of lovelessness and mismanagement. e.g. cosmetic amenities like lip balm in a container full of fingertip-prints of former use.. The iron so dirty it ruined my skirt in ironing it with it.. a pigeon flew into the balcony window and fought for life there for one whole day (missing bird stickers on the windows) - we will never ever come back again. See photos.

Breakfast, location were exceptional. But the greatest draw and the reason I will ABSOLUTELY come back us the Uber accommodating and incredibly professional staff! Hands down the best commodity the property has to offer.
Leaving.....but alas the safari calls!

I booked the Atlantic Suite, which boasts a breathtaking view of the mountains and ocean, just as described. What truly stands out about this hotel is its warm and welcoming atmosphere; you can really feel the family vibes. Each night, my room was thoughtfully prepared, complete with a delightful chocolate shaped like the map of Africa. The food and breakfast were exceptional, and Chef NoNo was truly dedicated to providing the best culinary experience. I highly recommend this place!

Location, views, spaciousness
Breakfast was quite a process, first taking our beverages order, after the drinks arrived then taking our continental breakfast order, and when that arrived, taking our hot breakfast order. Took too long, approx. 35-40 mins for breakfast. Only max 4 other guests at the property, mostly only 3 others, so staff were not rushed off their feet!
Laundry issue with shrinkage due probably to overdrying was promptly attended to and most of our clothes were wearable after a second wash and line drying. We were credited for the value of a couple of garments that could no longer be worn due to shrinkage. Thank you Calvin!
I slipped and fell one morning in the shower which has a stone tile floor with no grip and water pools on the surface. This is dangerous as the shower is large with the towel rail too far to grip if you slip.

The property itself is fantastic, with great views, modern furnishings and indoor/garage parking. It's well-maintained and quiet lending an air of luxury to the garden suite which we stayed in. The rooms and bathrooms are extremely spacious and dinner & breakfast was very good. This is what we would expect is on offer at a high end establishment at the heart of Camps Bay. Brilliant in this regard.
We were however, disappointed with the service we received, which wasn't in line with other 5-star experiences, both internationally and locally. My wife and I are very well travelled and have a good idea of what we would expect of a 5-star experience , and in a city like our home here in Cape Town, we should be bench marking this establishment against the best of the best amongst boutique hotels.
We found staff rather unwelcoming and unfortunately not professional. We kindly requested a late check-out (if possible - even if it’s for a hour later) and we were told '10 is 10' (the request was not taken by staff to the manager either). We were also told at check-in that there'd be a turn-down service in the evening which didn't happen, as after we had gotten back to our room, I had gone back upstairs and we had to ask for this to be done. The response to this was that the other lady on duty should have done it, indicating poor communication. This was done after the request was made after I had gone up to ask for it, which should not be the case at a 5 star establishment.
We were also not asked how the stay was when checking out (by the staff or the Assistant Manager that was apparently on duty - did not see him during the morning), which we do expect of a 5-star establishment having stayed elsewhere in Cape Town, and having travelled to just over 25 other countries

The Atlantic suite was amazing, the views over the bay and sleeping with the doors open to the sound of the crashing waves. A wonderful room. Hot tub was a bonus.
Needs more electric sockets. Daigonal configuration made adaptors tricky.
