Cosy and comfortable stay

Staff were so welcoming… room was lovely. Bed was very comfortable and it was nice to sit out in a communal area instead of being cooped up in one’s room… Close to town and restaurants/pubs.

Home away from home - absolutely loved it!

Everything! The lodge itself is stunning! As a single woman travelling solo, I need to feel safe and comfortable and this was just perfect! Such a great location in the centre of town but not near the main road so it isn’t noisy. The communal kitchen has everything you need! And I loved having dinner by the pool.

Not very happy

It was far over charged. We booked 3 adults. What we stayed was a studio with one queen size bed and one sofa bed, very small room. We was pay $393.75 per night, even though it was during the new year holiday, I felt it charged too much.plus the sounds proof was bad and we cound heard the noisy from next door and upstairs

The host was friendly and seemed nice.

This place is seriously run down and kind of gross. We could barely sleep the first night. My child opted to sleep on the floor rather than the sofa bed because it was so uncomfortable. There was no working aircon and the ceiling fan did basically nothing. There was constant stomping and banging from the room upstairs. This meant I could not sleep really for more than a few minutes at a time. Cobwebs and dead bugs in the room and more on the window sills, TV did not work despite multiple attempts, wifi was very very slow and things constantly timed out including the tv. No one at reception to help sort issues. Parking was tricky and annoying to get in and out of. Spa pool had lots of bugs in it to the point that they were washing off me in the shower afterwards.

The property itself is lovely, and both the pool and spa very clean. The staff are welcoming and helpful.

My room was very tiny and claustrophobic, with very dated furnishings and not so much as a bedside table or light. I found it very difficult to relax by the pool because of so much traffic noise.

The host manager was very friendly. She showed and explained me the lodge and the room. I got a room upgrade without asking. very nice victorian style. A absolute complete and modern kitchen is useable for everybody, free tea and coffee included. I got a lot of tips for traveling, had a nice conversation. thx

This place is a gem

Michelle who manages the Lodge is a treasure ! The lodge itself is just beautiful - gorgeous living room with fireplace and wonderful deep sofas - huge kitchen with all appliances - and outside is the gated pool and hot tub . It’s got a wonderful atmosphere and thus is the seconds stay I have had while visiting NZ.

Warm, friendly welcome!

We loved the friendly warm welcome when we arrived. Michelle is a great host ,we had our fur baby & she made us all feel very comfortable. Our room was clean & all the facilities were well looked after. Pool & spa were good. Quick walk to town was perfect for us We most definitely will be back to stay again

More hostel than hotel but met lots of people.

Downstairs kitchen and lounge area were well appointed with lots of comfortable couches and chairs. Had an old homestead charm to it. Lots of places near by to eat at.

Upstairs rooms in the villa were hot with no fan or air conditioning. Heat was exacerbated by some windows being in poor repair with a note not to open them.

Pluses: good location, wifi, shower. Clean.

My mistake for not double checking. My preference is a room with at least a fridge. Lodges obviously just have a communal kitchen area. Other than that, because it’s an old building there isn’t any soundproofing and could hear the other people staying there. Worst though? The smoke detector in my room relentlessly beeped throughout the night. Obviously the battery had not been replaced and the ceiling was too high for me to reach it. The owner did text me on 11 August to say she would refund me via Booking dot com. As at 10 September no sign of it.

Unfortunately I won’t be returning.

I had stayed here in the past. I returned expecting a similar experience- for my recent 6 night stay. Unfortunately, I was let down. However, I would like to thank the female duty manager who was on between the evening of Friday 28 and Monday the 31st - she was very helpful and quick to resolve issues - if it hadn’t been for her I would have left on my 2nd night. The communal kitchen and lounge area are nice spaces to reside.

I had come off a 30 hour flight from the UK - I checked in to the small twin room 5 in the main house. The single bed mattresses were so uncomfortable I couldn’t sleep. There were no other rooms available until my 2nd night, where I was asked to pay to upgrade another guests room so I could stay in the room they had booked. This meant that on average for my 6 night stay I was paying $210 per night. I was so exhausted I just wanted a comfortable bed to sleep. That evening I arrived back to find my new room (the snug room) window open. Closing it I quickly realised it was disguising a stench emanating from the en-suite (either damp or sewage). The smell was so strong you couldn’t sleep with it. The helpful duty manage quickly moved me to one of the self contained units- where I spent the next 3 nights in comfort (thank you). I was then moved back into the house for my remaining 2 nights (room 6). The room was okay but the road noise was excessive. The hottub and pool were both milky indicating chemical imbalances. After my 6 night stay I left feeling more tired than I arrived.

Manageress, very lovely, Our room was fine, two single beds, comfortable Shared bathroom with 4 other rooms, no problem. The main shared kitchen was great, also the lounge/tv room exceptional. loved the decor. spa pool was fantastic.

The curtains by the window when closed, were dangling in my face. :-)
