Hôtel Saint-Louis Sun Dakar

Very good breakfast & the occasion was perfect, in walking distance to an interesting area of Dakar. The inside patio area was welcoming and a perfect place for a beer after visiting the city with amazing plants that are hosed down every week!

You can order food & eat there in the evening. Only downside was that we arrived late evening so just potato chips to be had. Maybe book a meal in advance if you arrive there late.

Breakfast was very basic continental, it was OK. Downtown location so great for walking.

The shower in the bathroom did not work well.

There aren't too many choices in downtown Dakar and certainly nothing that comes across as a value so went with this place as it was just a night and cheaper than the rest. Based on the reviews I knew what to expect so there was no surprises or disappointment. Yes lots of reviews mention the morning mosque noise...the mosque really is smack adjacent to the property. The morning prayer woke me up at 4:46AM (!!) but I knew it was going to happen so no biggie. You would think the walls of the hotel would insulate the sound better but no. The windowless room was old and drab, just a couple decorating touches could really cheer things up. I did like the old feel of the place and the palms / foliage in the atrium, you can feel some history. I liked the location and the interesting walk from the train station through Old Dakar to the property. Check-in guy was very friendly.

Low value for what you're paying. The room has two sets of doors, the outer doors are slatted and the inner doors are glass but there's no curtain so you don't feel complete privacy and they won't insulate sound well (though things were quiet overall on my night aside from the mosque). The room had no window. It would have to be far cheaper than the 29,000 XOF for me to book this place again.
