The host helped us with invoice after hours as we were stranded in Richards bay due to the fact that Ross Heights double booked. Duck Inn was full but on booking.com site it allowed us to book. The host of Palm Garden went out of her way to assist us

The communication was very good, though I would have like to know the owner's name, as she addressed me by my first name, which I appreciated, but all communications ended with Palm Gardens Guest House and no more. We could see that a lot of effort had been put into keeping the premises pleasant and respectable ... pretty good. It was nice to have a ceiling fan and air conditioner to counteract the Richards Bay heat. The guesthouse was easy to find, made particularly easy with a number of clear signs along the way. The wifi was very adequate for streaming YouTube, with clear and easy instructions. There were also good instructions on the use of the TV and streaming box. While it was clear that they were trying to save money, it is acceptable considering the very reasonable price we paid.

The tea/coffee facilities were not good. We, as frequent travellers, are used to having these in our room, but, at Palm Gardens, these facilities were in the reception area. This was fine until I went down in the evening to make myself a cup of tea and found that the milk in the fridge had been placed too close to the freezer and was frozen solid. The basin tap in our room, number 2, was not secure and moved about as we tried to use it. There was a little body wash in the shower but no soap at the basin. It would have been nice to have at least one bedside lamp. There had been somebody who was surely a chain smoker before us, evident by the huge pile of cigarette ends, plus an empty packet, in the flower pot filled with sand sand on the balcony. This still being there, along with there being only one chair, spoiled for us what would have been a rather pleasant balcony.
