Middle of nowhere, which sometimes is a good thing. Damp smell and needs some refurbishing.

Cost, and the ability to be self sufficient for a week.

Overall the property is damp. The smell is overwhelming at first, and after a day I had a sore throat all the time I stayed. The house is tired and needs some refurb as the pictures on the site are from a few years ago.

it was our worst holiday ever

- dirty kitchen and fridge, - mold on the walls, - the house stank and it was impossible to sleep, - dirty walls, - Carpets not vacuumed with lots of animal hair

Lovely place to stay, but shower screen badly fitted so was leaking, damp smell in place.

Shower was nice pressure, but on first use, I had a large puddle of water on the bathroom floor. The shower screen needs to be removed and refitted (or better a new one fitted) by a competent Bathroom Fitter. As it is leaking really badly and damaging the ceiling and wall below. I manage to stand in a different position for the other showers I have but even from this position it leaked. Sorry I have been away for a month. If this was sorted out then the property would be perfect for a stay.

Many maintenance issues- poor value

There was cobwebs in the kitchens next to the toaster. The kettle had a hole in the bottom so it was unusable. The shower leaked water all over the floor and the bedroom light did not work.

Great little cottage

The cottage was cozy and clean, a great little house away from home. The river flowing at the back of the house is simply awesome, we really enjoyed opening the window to allow the fresh air and relaxing sound of the water gushing.

Not sunshine indoors

Nice shower Going home

We arrived at River Cottage after a four hour journey to a very musty smell. The cottage felt as if it had been standing for weeks without being aired. I understand because of the lockdown, but could have been opened, aired and cleaned before it was advertised. The kitchen facilities left a lot to be desired. There were no cooking utensils. The saucepans had to be washed before we could use them as they were dirty and covered in dust. There were no oven proof dishes or chopping boards , which we consider a must on self catering holidays. We had to switch the fridge unit on at the mains, so we had to wait a few hours before we could get any milk. When my wife went to use the washing machine, she found dead wood lice inside. The bed kept us awake all night as it creaked and groaned every time we moved. The tv in the bedroom had an integrated DVD player, which did not work. We had a note left by the owner saying that the internet was not working and an engineer had been notified and should be back on by Tuesday. We left Friday. Still no internet. This is the first time since using Booking.com that I have left a bad review. Cleanliness at this time should be of the highest priority. We will not be recommending River Cottage to anyone. We will not be staying here again.

Good base for my travels, although the village itself was a bit depressing.

Beautifully organised cottage -- made a small space very liveable. Well appointed and presented. Bathroom spectacular - great shower although I still haven't worked out how the shower head could change colour without an electric supply. The 3D wall coverings take a bit of getting used to and the TV wall is a bit busy. Overall, extremely comfortable and well-presented

No potato masher!! My bangers and mash had to be 'forked'!. Other than that, everything was just fine. Electric cooker looked old-fashioned but worked very well [sorry if there's any laverbread residue on the splashback!].

Nice for walking and for quiet break. I wouldn't recommend it for children though.

The cottage was lovely. The owners were accommodating and lovely and always at the end of the phone should you need anything.

There was nothing to do in the area. It OK if u just want a walking or cycling holiday.
