About this cottage rental

Discover West Iceland from a home worth coming back to.

Waterfalls and hot springs in Borgarfjörður. Fishing villages and dramatic coastlines on Snæfellsnes. Cafés, restaurants and everyday essentials in Borgarnes. Bakki brings these different sides of Iceland into one holiday, with a peaceful countryside home to return to each evening.

Set among birch trees, Bakki is an architect-designed home for up to 10 guests, with four bedrooms, generous living spaces and a wraparound terrace. Spend the day exploring, then come home to dinner together, a barbecue outdoors and a long soak in your private hot tub.

ONE BASE, MANY SIDES OF WEST ICELAND

Unpack once and explore at your own pace. Staying at Bakki lets you choose a different adventure each day, adjusting your plans to the weather without having to move accommodation.

Discover the waterfalls, geothermal landscapes and history of Borgarfjörður. Set aside a full day for Snæfellsnes. Or keep the day simple with a visit to Borgarnes and an unhurried afternoon back at the house.

BORGARFJÖRÐUR: WATERFALLS, HOT SPRINGS AND HISTORY

Watch the streams of Hraunfossar emerge from the lava field, explore nearby Barnafoss and see the steaming geothermal waters at Deildartunguhver. Visit historic Reykholt or take a walk through the volcanic scenery around Grábrók.

Borgarfjörður rewards taking your time. Combine a few favourite stops, enjoy lunch along the way and return to Bakki with an evening still ahead of you.

SNÆFELLSNES: A DAY OF COASTAL DISCOVERIES

Make a full day of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, where fishing villages, rugged shores and volcanic landscapes give you plenty of reasons to stop along the way.

Explore the coastline, visit villages such as Arnarstapi and Hellnar, or plan your day around the landscapes of Snæfellsjökull National Park. Choose a route that suits your group and the season, then return to the comfort of Bakki.

BORGARNES: EVERYTHING YOU NEED ALONG THE WAY

Borgarnes is your local town for groceries, cafés, restaurants and museums. Stop for coffee, enjoy a meal out or pick up ingredients for dinner at home.

Having access to town services makes it easy to enjoy the countryside setting while keeping everyday holiday practicalities straightforward.

YOUR PRIVATE HOT TUB AND OUTDOOR KITCHEN

The wraparound terrace is one of Bakki’s great pleasures. Start the morning outside with a coffee, prepare dinner in the outdoor kitchen or gather around the barbecue while the evening light lingers.

Private hot tub with an outdoor shower nearby. After a day of sightseeing, settle into the warm water and let the conversation carry on beneath the Icelandic sky.

Comfortable outdoor seating and a lawn bordered by birch woodland give you space to relax, with room for children to play beside the house.

In summer, enjoy the long, light evenings. During the darker months, clear skies and the right aurora conditions may bring the northern lights into view.

ARCHITECTURE THAT BRINGS NATURE INSIDE

Designed by Icelandic architect Sigurður Hallgrímsson, Bakki combines floor-to-ceiling windows and open living spaces with hardwood floors, natural stone tiles and thoughtful lighting.

The large windows keep you connected to the surroundings, even when you are curled up indoors. Watch the changing light, choose a book or settle in for a film after dinner.

Underfloor heating keeps the house welcoming through the colder months, making a quiet winter evening at home part of the holiday.

MADE FOR MEALS AND TIME TOGETHER

The spacious kitchen and large island form the heart of the house. There is room to prepare meals together, with quality equipment for cooking and baking and tableware for your group.

Share breakfast while planning the day, keep the cook company over a drink or take your time over dinner. The open kitchen and living area let everyone be part of the evening.

Four bedrooms provide space to rest, with sleeping arrangements that include a sofa bed. The main bathroom has a spacious shower and a long wooden countertop.

Heidi and Rob have the most comfortable and thoughtful home to share. Beautiful setting in a woodland area just northwest of Borgarnes. Perfect location to explore Snaefellsness, Diamond Circle, Golden Circle and Reykjavik. We needed nothing. Well stocked kitchen, super comfy beds, pillows, and linens, plenty of towels for hot tub. Layout of the common area was just perfect for our group of six women. The local Netto was perfect to get groceries. We ate breakfast and supper at the house and lunch somewhere on the road. Also found the Pufan Woodfire Pizza in Borgarnes for excellent thin crust pizzas. We couldn't figure the phone order, so one of the group drove over while we were shopping and we picked it up on the way home. I would highly recommend this home away from home.

We LOVED our stay here- from booking to our holiday we had such great communication with our host. This house is so special and wonderful highly recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful place to stay- we could not have asked for a better base for our Iceland adventure. Having all of the information from our host from directions to how to use the appliances was fantastic. Already dreaming of our next visit. Bonus was seeing the northern lights on a very clear night from the back deck.

The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The layout of the house is very nice, there were some toys and games for the kids to play with and a separate TV. We enjoyed the hot tub and the overall space available inside. We were lucky to see an amazing Northern Light show on two different nights!
