We enjoyed a magical three weeks in Castiglion Fosco. Andrea and Gilda have lovingly restored and enhanced an historic cottage, retaining one hundred percent of its charm and adding one hundred percent modern amenities: lovely cooking facility, up to date bathrooms, beautiful handmade tile floors, lots of ceramic details painted by a local artist, wonderful BBQ, stone terraces, and meticulously maintained pool. When there was a mechanical problem with the water heater after a lightning storm, Andrea got it fixed immediately. He also correctly suggested that we park our car in the upper town lot instead of threading it through a tiny arch and up a steep, turning drive. It was lovely to take the short walk every day for our outings and then stroll back down the hill in the evening.The pharmacy, post office and coffee bar under the tower give the hamlet a little more life than most of the nearby castles and small towns, and Tavernelle is right nearby with very good grocery shopping and road connections to the rest of Umbria.Best of all, the quiet was unbelievable. Just a few roosters and geese in the distance, at least at this time of year when many of the other houses were closed up.The surrounding landscape is so green and various, as are the clouds and sunrises and soft sunsets, that we easily read out the encroachments of modern power lines coming up the hill next to the house from an electric generating plant in the valley. All in all, superb!

We read the reviess before we booked, and indeed it has a narrow road down to it, but Andrea threw all our bags in his car and ferried us down to his quaint little little villavilla.

We very much enjoyed staying at Andrea's little house - a lovely location, with local amenities close at hand. The house was well equipped on the whole (the kitchen was the only thing that we felt could do with better resourcing), and the presence of air conditioning was a plus.
We enjoyed exploring the local environs very much, and found that there was more than enough to do during our stay. Andrea was a warm and helpful host, and nothing was too much trouble. A lovely break - thank you Andrea!
