Nimal`s Homestay

Nimal and his family are very friendly and always willing to help. You feel welcome straight away. The room was simple but clean and perfectly adequate. The incredibly delicious local food is particularly worth mentioning. There were fresh meat dishes and seafood in generous portions, and personal requests were always catered for. Breakfast was also very good, with a choice of local or continental options featuring fresh fruit straight from their own garden. The value for money is truly excellent. Another highlight was the cooking class with Nimal and his wife, during which we were shown how to prepare various traditional curry dishes. The location is a little inland, about 500 metres from the beach. However, there is a lovely, quiet stretch of beach right in the village with easy access to the sea. The village is only about 5 minutes from Hikkaduwa, where you can enjoy excellent snorkelling and shopping, amongst other things. Nimal even showed us around personally. Galle, with its beautiful fort, is also not far away and definitely worth a visit. Thank you very much for the great tips on excursions and things to do!

Nimals Homestay war eines der Highlights unserer Reise. Es ist kein gewöhnlicher Aufenthalt, sondern ein echtes Zuhause - herzlich, authentisch und familiär. Nimal ist ein großartiger Gastgeber, unglaublich hilfsbereit und immer darauf bedacht, dass man sich wohlfühlt. Besonders hervorzuheben ist sein Essen: Nimal ist ein sehr erfahrener Koch mit über 20 Jahren Berufserfahrung, und das schmeckt man bei jeder Mahlzeit. Die Gerichte waren frisch, authentisch und mit viel Liebe zubereitet - besser als in vielen Restaurants. Zusätzlich hat Nimal uns viel über die lokale Kultur und Bräuche erklärt und bei der Organisation von Ausflügen geholfen, die er teilweise selbst begleitet hat. Dadurch haben wir Orte und Erlebnisse kennengelernt, die wir alleine nie gefunden hätten. Wer eine authentische Homestay-Erfahrung sucht, bei der Gastfreundschaft, gutes Essen und echte Einblicke in das lokale Leben im Mittelpunkt stehen, ist hier genau richtig. Absolute Empfehlung - wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen!

Nimal's homestay in village of Dodanduwa. A great getaway for us & a chance to enjoy village life by staying with a local family. Nimal & Chani are great hosts, friendly & involving, but also give you plenty of space. We enjoyed various trips around the area with Nimal (whale watching, snake farm, there's plenty to see) & also enjoyed exploring on our own (you can go canoeing around the nearby lagoon, or catch waves at a nearby beach that had decent surf). The food, cooked by Chani & Nimal, was fantastic & plentiful, many different spices & curries, and a lot of local seafood. The rooms are clean, cool, safe, and the outdoor balcony great for playing cards, people-watching, eating, drinking beer etc Also great for watching local birdlife. Galle is not far away, and is a fun place to visit for shopping (Manjari - one stop shop!). There's also a talented tailor in the village who made some clothes for us.

This is an amazing place to stay! Friendly, knowledgeable hosts who will help you with any questions or planning. Food is incredible, no need to leave accommodation as breakfast and dinners are like taking a tour around Sri Lankan cuisine from your own room. Private rooms amongst beautiful natural surroundings with birds, mongoose, lizards, so much to observe from cosy balcony with sink and fridge. Many activities nearby, beach 10 minutes walk away, lagoon kayaking, Hikkaduwa and Galle nearby, mask workshop, whale watching, moonstones, tsunami museum, sea turtles, snorkeling and many more. Being immersed in village life is vibrant and lively, meeting the tailor, family, neighbours, dogs and kitty, this is the best part.
